Facsimile reprint. Previously published: London; New York: Oxford University Press, 1966.
An edition of the forty Old English homilies which make up the first of the two series of Catholic Homilies written by Aelfric of Eynsham c. 990. A major work of Anglo-Saxon prose, written by one of the foremost scholars of his time.
This edition presents several Old English texts from an Oxford manuscript. The works are unique to this manuscript and have not been edited since 1909, when only a text and translation were supplied. Four of the texts are by the 10th-century writer Aelfric, while the others are anonymous.
A new and comprehensive edition and translation of a key Anglo-Saxon text
