"Absolute Surrender and Other Addresses" is a compilation of sermons and essays written by the famous South African religious leader Andrew Murray. Born in South Africa in 1828, Murray grew up educated in Scotland and later the Netherlands. He returned to South Africa in 1848 after his ordination and pastored several churches all over South Africa. Murray was an important proponent of the "Higher Life" or "Keswick" movement which believed that after one's initial baptism into the Christian faith one must continue to work on a second blessing from God. This second blessing or purpose is possible by living a more holy and less sinful daily life. This goal may only be achieved by surrendering one's will and daily life absolutely to Jesus and by studying and understanding Jesus's words and lessons to his disciples. In these stirring and inspiring sermons, Murray details the benefits of absolute surrender to God, such as untold blessings and a true experience of Jesus, and instructs the faithful in how to achieve this surrender in their daily life. Murray's wise words continue to guide the faithful over a hundred years later. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

Andrew Murray relates in this work the importance of the cross to Christian belief, and to the lessons which Jesus Christ wanted to teach all of mankind.Although demonstratively brief, Murray's explanations contain a conviction and poignancy, explaining the centrality and vitality of the crucifix to the Christian faith. The crucifixion's importance in Christ's message and destiny, and the reasons behind why his spirit was led to a painful end upon the cross, are keenly discussed by Murray. He delivers explanations of the cross as a symbol of Christian attainment, wherein God takes possession of the human soul and frees it from sin for eternity.Andrew Murray authored 200+ works on the religion and ministry of Christianity, the Bible, and on topics inspiring Christians to lead virtuous and happy lives. Murray spent most of his life imparting the word of God in churches throughout South Africa, and in the 1880s became an important figure in the founding of the South African General Mission.

"Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you." And they went. - Matthew 20:4The first objective of this book is to remind all Christian workers of the greatness and the glory of the work in which God gives a share. As we see that it is God's own work that we have to work out, and that in our working, His glory rests on us and we glorify Him, then we shall count it our joy to live only and wholly for His work. The purpose of this book at the same time is to help those who complain, or perhaps do not even know enough to complain, that they are apparently laboring in vain, by helping them discover what may be the cause of so much failure. God's work must be done in God's way and in God's power. It is spiritual work to be done by spiritual men in the power of the Spirit. The clearer our submission to God's laws of work, the surer and richer our joy and reward in it will be.Follows Waiting on God, also by Andrew MurrayAbout the AuthorAndrew Murray (1828-1917) was a well-known South African writer, teacher, and pastor. A classic devotional in modern language, with extra content by Andrew Murray on the subject of Humility.Andrew Murray boldly challenges the thought that merely recognizing our sin keeps us humble. He takes humility to a deeper level by teaching it is only genuine when both one's attitude and actions are holy. To be kind, compassionate, and forgiving are graces rooted in humility. If one is incapable of showing them, then pride as taken root in their heart. Therefore, we must bow before God in nothingness before we will be exalted in His presence, empowering us to live as He commands us to.

Wait for the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, for the LORD - Psalm 27:14Too little time is given to waiting on the Lord at our conventions and assemblies, and in our private devotions. Isn't He willing to make things right in His own divine way? Has the life of God's people reached the utmost limit of what He is willing to do for them? Surely not. We need to wait on Him and put away our experiences, however blessed they have been; our personal concept of truth, however sound and scriptural we think it is; our plans, however needful and suitable they appear. We must give the Lord time and place to show us what He could do and what He will do. The Lord has new developments and new resources. He can do new things, unheard-of things, and hidden things. Let us enlarge our hearts and not limit Him.Precedes Working for God, also by Andrew MurrayAbout the AuthorAndrew Murray (1828-1917) was a well-known South African writer, teacher, and pastor.
