In ""The Leader's 2nd Training,"" Mindell introduces tested 2nd Training Inner Work, Bodywork, Relationship, and Large Group methods for personal, group, and world conflicts. Two key ideas are that everyone is needed as a 2nd Training leader to facilitate conflicts worldwide, and that 2nd Trainings are based on a Big TOE (Big Theory Of Everything).1st Trainings in Leadership should include, at the minimum, diversity awareness, group process skills, business leadership concepts, and conflict methods. Such cognitive trainings, while very much needed, are not enough to help our planet's worst social and environmental problems. Therefore, this book introduces 2nd Training methods to enable all 1st Trainings to work better. 2nd Trainings help people to become effective leaders by increasing their awareness and ability to FLOW-and be creative and powerful during conflict! 2nd Trainings reduce tension, and thus create solutions and friendships. Thanks to physicist Stephen Hawking and others, the TOE intends to unify the immense spaces of Relativity and tiny spaces of the Quantum world. Mindell now suggests a Big TOE, which includes not only Physics, but also Psychology, Spiritual experience, and Social awareness. Mindell's 2nd Training methods have been widely tested around the world, with thousands of people and dozens of organizations, including the U.N. and government leaders.
This book is an extension of the author`s therapeutic work with the concept of the dreambody. Just as the unconscious, or `dreambody,' signals its problems (and solutions) in dreams and in the body, so the collective unconscious of the planet does the same. Attention to these signals can pave the way for global therapy - literally making the planet and its people whole and healthy.
Drawing on his shamanic experiences in Africa, Japan and India, the author takes readers on a "death walk" in which our worst fears and most profound emotions are confronted in order to awaken the shaman-warrior within. Through his method, argues the author, one's own sorcery is unleashed.
Arnold Mindell describes "The Leader as Martial Artist" in his new 2014 preface: "Here you will find my first introduction to Deep Democracy, as the core of organizational process. Here is where you will find a basic and today, still completely relevant application of field theory, how it connects with Taoism, and "time spirits." The stress upon awareness in the midst of psychological and political turbulence is timeless .
Arnold Mindell, Ph.D., shows how working with power, rank, revenge and abuse helps build sustainable communities. Mindell is the co-founder of processwork and author of numerous books, including 'Quantum Mind', 'The Deep Democracy of Open Forums' and 'The Leader as Martial Artist.' He has appeared on national radio and television and works internationally with multi-racial and highly conflicted groups.
"Just as the earth is moved by the universe, you, me, every human, every life form, and every thing is moved by the universe as well. This movement feeling, the sense of the universe's gravity field or what Einstein called space-time, is not just felt by astronauts. All of us feel moved by gravity all the time." "When you let gravity move you, when you are moved by space-time, you are moved by the universe. When you are moved in this way, you are showing the 'dance of the ancient one, ' and are in contact with the space between us, with the subtle experience of being moved by what I shall explain is a system mind--possibly the most powerful system mind available to us." -- Arnold Mindell, The Dance of the Ancient One, Spring 2013 In his latest book, Mindell expands on his earlier concept of the processmind as he develops the notion of space-time dreaming or "dance of the ancient one" in his rigorous efforts toward the elucidation of a ToE (or theory of everything). Space-time dreaming weaves together essential spiritual concepts from the Eastern mystical tradition of the Tao and Wu Wei of Chinese philosophy, along with modern Western field and space theories in quantum physics such as gravity, space time, unified field theories, indeterminacy and entanglement. He draws upon personal field ideas (i.e., the unconscious), interpersonal social field and role theory from psychology and sociology, then adds concepts of intersubjectivity and entanglement from transpersonal and integral psychology. On a group level, he incorporates interdependence from organizational system mind models and places it all in the context of ecology, of Gaia, and then the larger universe. One World concepts, such as the Unus Mundus from mystical and alchemical traditions that work at a more essential or non-dual level to unite seeming opposites, facilitate the coming together of all of these varied perspectives in his framing of the space-time dreaming concept, experientially accessible as "The Dance of the Ancient One." Each chapter contains either an exercise to do in pairs or a small group, or an inner work exercise, so that you can facilitate yourself and experience the space-time dreaming states directly. Transcripts of discussions with his students are distributed throughout the book, and engagingly contribute to a diverse and resonant learning experience.
Most of us are terrified of conflict, says Arnold Mindell, PhD, author of fifteen books and internationally recognized for his innovative synthesis of Jungian therapy, dreams, and bodywork. But we needn't be. His burning passion is to create groups and organizations where everyone looks forward to group processes instead of fearing them. He calls this the deep democracy of open forums, where all voices, thoughts, and feelings are aired freely, especially the ones nobody wants to hear. Since 1992, one of Mindell's prime interests has been the bringing of deeper awareness to group conflicts. Conflict work without reference to altered states of consciousness is like a flu shot for someone in a manic or depressed state of consciousness. Most group and social problems cannot be well facilitated or resolved without access to the dreamlike and mystical atmosphere in the background. The key is becoming aware of it. Mindell introduces a new paradigm for working in groups, from 3 to 3,000, based on awareness of the flow of signals and events. You can take the subtlest of signals indicating the onset of emotions such as fear, anger, hopelessness, and other altered states, and use them to transform seemingly impossible problems into uplifting community experiences. As Mindell explains, "I share how everyone-people in schools and organizations, communities and governments-can use inner experiences, dreaming, and mysticism, in conjunction with real methods of conflict management, to produce lively, more sustainable, conscious communities."
