This publication highlights how ADB and Bhutan are working together to achieve more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient growth.
This knowledge product explains the rationale and procedures for incorporating allowances for climate change in detailed engineering design, with a focus on credible adjustments to extreme rainfall and to mean and high-end sea-level rise. Highlighting worked examples drawn from Viet Nam's road transport sector and peer-reviewed research literature, it offers a point of departure for more sophisticated assessments of high-risk projects. It presents principles and approaches extendable to other design variables (extreme air temperature, evaporation, and wind speed) and transferable to other sectors, regions, and stages of the asset life cycle (from project concept to decommissioning). An accompanying step-by-step manual shows how each calculation is performed.
This step-by-step manual describes procedures for climate change adjustments relative to extreme rainfall and local sea level estimates. The principles presented are based on worked examples discussed in the knowledge product accompanied by this manual. While the overall approach on climate change adjustment procedures and calculations are intended to be as transparent as possible, key sources of information and assumptions are open to scrutiny as some elements may be affected by rapid advancements in science and technology. It is essential for data to be periodically reviewed, in line with the latest reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is causing an unprecedented global impact on cities across the world. This guidance note aims to support cities in developing member countries of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to effectively and immediately respond to the crisis, and to "e;build back better"e; in the short and medium terms. It is anchored to the principles outlined in ADB's Strategy 2030 Operational Plan for Priority 4: Making Cities More Livable and also considers the public health and economic impacts of the pandemic. The guidance note is one of a series produced by ADB for key sectors and thematic areas.
Highlights trends in emerging East Asian local currency bond markets and explores bank efficiency and financing for a sustainable recovery. The publication discusses the importance of green and social finance in ensuring a sustainable recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
Sufficient provisioning for health and social protection will help support a swift inclusive recovery in Pacific island countries. This edition of the Pacific Economic Monitor discusses the outlook for 2021 and key issues for recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis, including vaccine procurement and distribution.
These guidelines describe how to develop a design and monitoring framework (DMF) for an Asian Development Bank (ADB) project. The DMF communicates the planned performance of a project. As a link between project design, implementation, and evaluation, it provides the basis for the project performance management system. The purpose of these guidelines is to help improve the quality and consistency of DMFs across ADB.
Presents a case study in East Java, Indonesia, about ADB's collaboration with local governments and other stakeholders in monitoring, implementing, raising awareness, and advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals.
Discusses an analysis of an alternative road's impact on Almaty in Kazakhstan and Issyk-Kul in the Kyrgyz Republic in driving tourism and economic development, exploring the potential of a more direct link between the countries
Covers the review and assessment of trade in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan along with the potential for development of the proposed Shymkent-Tashkent-Khujand Economic Corridor (STKEC). The assessment explores the transit of international goods in cities and oblasts in STKEC and and trade regimes in the three countries.
Presents the latest developments and unresolved issues for negotiations on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement leading up to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Glasgow.
This final volume of the Asia Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Monitor 2020 sets out ADB's work so far on the index to help guide support for MSME development. The index aims to capture the structural problems MSMEs face and to measure MSME development and access to finance using multivariate analysis of national MSME data.
Provides spatial information about Maldives and thematic maps necessary for assessing future development investments in terms of climate risks and geophysical hazards. The atlas is also intended to support the formulation of cobeneficial options for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and management.
