Jack, a loyal and loving Boxer, becomes an out-of-control killing machine days after contracting rabies from a raccoon in his familys backyard. Jack attacks his owner, 17-year-old Katy, and her childhood friend, Peyton, and a bloody race for survival ensues as the terrified girls find themselves severely injured and trapped in a bedroom without any means of calling for help. The life-or-death situation is a shock considering the endearing nature of this story. Jack, a rescue dog, is the perfect companion for Katy and a neighborhood favorite. The two end up being inseparable, often going on long-distance runs together, snuggling by the TV late at night, and spending their free time together even as Katy gets older and finds her schedule getting busier with a love interest and her and Peytons budding cross country careers. Jack is an extremely loyal and protective dog. He saves both Katy and Peyton from predatory acts and becomes a hero in the neighborhood for his fearlessness. But one day Jack is left alone outside and is bit behind the ear by a raccoon. When Katys mom neglects to take him to the vet, Jack takes a turn. Katy and Peyton notice Jack becoming restless in the backyard. When they open the door, he attacks them and slices into Peytons wrist. Peyton is severely injured but cannot get help as the two girls end up trapped in a bedroom as Jack violently tries to claw his way into the room through the door and nearby windows. Katy tries her best to care for Peytons wound, but she has already lost a lot of blood. After several hours, Katy considers many rescue attempts but instead works out a daring escape, so she can get to her cell phone and call for help. Peyton runs outside to create a distraction and collapses on the front lawn. Jack vanishes. Meanwhile, Peyton is rushed to the hospital and is being treated for her injuries. Left to pick up the pieces, Katy works with local animal control to bait Jack out of hiding in a nearby trail. When Jack tries to attack Katy and her mom, the unthinkable happens.
The day Rocky became Brians chocolate Labrador was the first best day of his life. The second best day was when he met Molly, the cocker spaniel next door. The dog life has been a good onechasing grasshoppers, playing tug-of-war, swimming in the lakebut Rocky also wanted to be a service dog. He wanted to be a police dog and go through the police academy. Molly, too, had her own dreams of being a show dog and competing in the dog show after her stint in beauty school. However, following their dreams meant they would have to leave each other and their childhood homes, and saying goodbye is bittersweet. Rockys life as a police dog is a dangerous one, but Mollys journey to become a show dog did have its bad guys. New friends and new adventures await the two dogs, but will Rockys and Mollys different dreams mean they will have to say goodbye forever? Or will fate somehow bring them back together for good? With perseverance, friendship, and fun, Rocky and Molly show what it means to dream big no matter what happens.
A wave of new Christian churches are emerging to reach unchurched and dechurched people who live in a culture that is increasingly non-religious and multi-religious. These new forms of church gather and network with people who typically have never been to church. The new faith communities listen to people and go where they are on the journey toward Jesus. They are deeply ecumenical but do not lose their distinctiveness because they learn fresh ways to communicate their identity through discipleship.Fresh Expressions began in the United Kingdom where it ignited over 3000 new faith communities. In the United States the movement is putting down roots in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Florida.Ken Carter and Audrey Warren offer this book as a group study for church leaders and congregations who are in the grip of Holy Spirit motivation to renew their tradition by reaching people who are dechurched or not yet in a discipleship relationship with Jesus. Each chapter includes two Bible study experiences for group conversation.
