To beat Takagi-san, Nishikata must think like Takagi-san, and that means everything has contest potential. From a teacher’s proposal to Setsubun, anything is fair game— except for 100% Unrequited. Although, why does Nishikata find it so embarrassing, anyway? It’s not like their relationship is even remotely like Ikeo and Kyunko’s!
By his third year of middle school, Nishikata is a veteran of competitions and of losing, but he is resolved to win against Takagi-san in the new year. However, there is one challenge, from his friend Hamaguchi, that Nishikata’s okay with failing: asking Takagi-san out! Sharing an umbrella and climbing up the rumored romantic stairs together don’t count…right?
Even without making a sound, Takagi-san proves to be a formidable opponent! But her near-clairvoyant teasing won’t discourage Nishikata. With a surefire Rock, Paper, Scissors strategy and some divine help, he has to win once, right? And when he does, he’ll definitely impress her—not that he likes her or anything, okay?!
Although the new school year threatens to separate Nishikata and Takagi-san into different classes, one thing remains certain—their continual series of contests will go on! Second-year Nishikata is not the same boy he was before, and he will definitely beat Takagi-san…except there’s one problem—Takagi-san is also in year two!
Even when Nishikata feels like he’s got the upper hand, Takagi-san never makes things easy for him. Whether he’s doing his best to make her admit she’s cold in her summer uniform, giving her a strict speech while pretending to be her teacher, or simply trying to avoid getting slapped on the back after a bad sunburn, escaping embarrassment is always a tall order! But he’s no quitter, and he can’t lose every time…can he?
