Se avesse cercato di occultarla la polizia l’avrebbe certamente trovata, ma mai agli stessi venne in mente, proprio perché questo andava contro ai loro frame cognitivi, che fosse in bella mostra, quasi esibita. Proprio l’abbandono della tecnica investigativa classica ha permesso a Dupin di risolvere il mistero mette do in campo un’altra competenza: la capacità di mettersi dal punto di vista dell’altro. D’altra parte era la stessa cosa che era accaduto nel momento del furto: la gran dama, all’entrata del ministro D, non cercò di nasconder la lettera, la mossa avrebbe insospettito i presenti, ma si limitò a lasciarla coperta sul tavolo da dove il ministro l’aveva semplicemente presa, come se fosse cosa sua.
