I have had a love of coffee for years. I have a degree in Pharmacology-Toxicology where I ran the coffee club. Noone else wanted the responsibility to absolutely positively show up every day to make that all important fluid extraction. I learned a lot about keeping consumers happy. One time I used deionized (purified) water for the brew. I received loads of complaints. That coffee wasn't working. I hypothesize it was the lack of minerals in the water that prevented the extraction of the caffeine from the coffee grounds. Tap water worked better but needed to be de-chlorinated to improve the flavor. After graduation and years later I was again in charge of this all important job for my group with Pesticide Enforcement Branch of California Environmental Protection Agency. All went well for years until our group was moved into the main building in downtown Sacramento. I would enter the break room and see a pot half filled with "coffee" sitting on the heat being ruined. This is where I again took over coffee production.

Time Trials is the story of the redemption of Wes Strong. After surviving an abusive father and a devastating loss in his family, he becomes an elite runner in high school and earns an athletic scholarship to Clemson University. Tragedy strikes when he becomes addicted to painkillers and bad decisions land him in prison where he is saved both literally and spiritually by the mysterious Preacher. Preacher enlightens Wes about the New Testament, particularly Romans 8:28. Wes is granted early release, and he becomes a counselor at the Bowers-Rodgers Shelter for Abused Children, where he uses his newfound faith to help others. Another counselor, Roxie, encourages Wes to resume running to set an encouraging example to the children at the Home. During this time, Wes is reconciled to his father who is dying of cancer. As a gift, Wess coworkers send him to the Boston Marathon, where extraordinary things happen. Afterward, Wes continues to preach Romans 8:28 to all as surprising rewards continue to come his way.

At one time or another, every adult has heard a startling insight emerge from the mouth of a child or young person. Yet often the thoughts and opinions of our youth are discounted, deeming the speakers too young or inexperienced to have anything worth listening to. But we know that's not true. This book seeks to strip away the stereotype of "ignorant youth" and show bullying, the school system, and society in the starkly honest words of the youth who experience them.
