Mest kendt er serien om anklageren Helen West, der udkom i seks bind i perioden 1988 - 1996. Serien blev filmatiseret og sendt som serie på BBC i 2002. Hegartys bøger er oversat til 14 sprog, og hun har vundet adskillige priser for sit forfatterskab.
