George Sampson (1873-1950) was a renowned literary scholar and educationalist. First published in 1947, this book gathers together a selection of essays by Sampson on a variety of subjects. The text is comprised of a mixture of reprinted works and original material.
This 1970 edition of Sampson's Concise History, prepared by R. C Churchill, provided a revision of the first thirteen chapters of the original with three additional substantial chapters. At the time of publication, this made it the only complete and up to date survey of world literature in English.
