The book aims at Assessing Utilization of Information Technology among Secretaries in Africa with particular reference to Selected Government Ministries in Meru Central District of Kenya. Certainly, the development in information technology has caused a new electronic office to emerge. The fact that most of the office personnel can access and manipulate data that were previously manned has led to reduction of employees including secretarial staff. In this book the author establishes that the level of utilization of communication systems was quite high in government offices. Majority of Secretaries stated that information technology made work easier for them and most of them used computers for data processing. However, despite the fact that most of them stated that they used modern communication systems in their offices, it came out clearly that internet and electronic mails usage was still low. This indicates that there is no proper utilization of the communication systems. The book concludes by arguing that information technology has impacted both positively and negatively on performance of Secretaries. As Africa works towards attaining MDGs improvements are needed on this!
