Le Tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours est un des romans les plus connus de Jules Verne. L'histoire du riche Phileas Fogg, qui fait le pari de faire le tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours, fut publie pour la premiere fois en 1873 et est connu dans le monde entier. Ce roman a ete adapte pour l'ecran a de nombreuses reprises, notamment dans le film de 2004 avec Jackie Chan et Arnold Schwarzenegger.Comme la majorite des livres de Jules Verne, Le Tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours met en avant les avancees technologiques du 19e. Par contre, il ne s'agit pas ici d'une histoire de science-fiction. Phileas Fogg utilise uniquement des moyens de transport existant reellement a l'epoque, rendant ainsi vraisemblable l'idee, qu'on puisse effectivement realiser un tel voyage en si peu de temps. -

L'ingenieur des mines francais Cyprianus Mere tombe amoureux en Afrique du Sud de la fille d'un riche proprietaire foncier. Parce qu'il n'est pas riche, Mere ne peut pas l'epouser, et il tente avec son compagnon Thomas Steel de trouver une combine pour s'enrichir au plus vite. Ils essayent d'abord de creuser pour trouver des diamants, mais sans succes. Ensuite, Mere imagine une methode de production de diamants artificiels, qui le rend instantanement riche. Malheureusement, le diamant produit est vole et Mere se lance a la poursuite du voleur. Ce roman suit les memes lignes que les autres A uvres de Verne : il est plein de suspense, de voyage et d'innovation technique. Une methode de production de diamant synthetique vit le jour en 1955, c'est-a-dire bien longtemps apres que Verne l'ait imagine dans ce roman de 1884.-

First published in 1874, "The Mysterious Island" is French author Jules Verne's exciting adventure which begins amidst the siege on Richmond, Virginia, during the American Civil War. Five northern prisoners plan an unconventional escape by hijacking a hot air balloon. What is in store for them is more than they bargained for. Cyrus Harding, an engineer in the union army; his servant Nebuchadnezzar, a former slave; sailor Bonadventure Pencroft; his protégé Herbert Brown; and the journalist Gideon Spilett; after flying for several days through stormy weather, crash-land their balloon on a deserted island. The men name it Island Lincoln in honor of their President, Abraham Lincoln. Reminiscent of such classic island stories of adventure as "Robinson Crusoe" and "Swiss Family Robinson" the novel follows the exploits of the men as they struggle for survival in a foreign land. A number of inexplicable occurrences, while the men are there, suggests that there is some secret mystery to the island, one that they will soon discover.
