This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards:1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions.2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work.We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Little Women was an immediate commercial and critical success with readers demanding to know more about the characters. Alcott quickly completed a second volume (entitled Good Wives in the United Kingdom, although this name originated from the publisher and not from Alcott). It was also successful. The two volumes were issued in 1880 as a single novel entitled Little Women.Little Women "has been read as a romance or as a quest, or both. It has been read as a family drama that validates virtue over wealth", but also "as a means of escaping that life by women who knew its gender constraints only too well". According to Sarah Elbert, Alcott created a new form of literature, one that took elements from Romantic children's fiction and combined it with others from sentimental novels, resulting in a totally new format. Elbert argued that within Little Women can be found the first vision of the "All-American girl" and that her multiple aspects are embodied in the differing March sisters.

  • - A Young Country Woman's Struggle to Find Acceptance and Belonging in the Urban Culture of Victorian America (Hardcover)
    by Louisa May Alcott
    £26.49

The famous sentimental novel by Louisa May Alcott is published here without abridgment; it follows the adventures of Polly Milton, a country girl who discovers the opulence of urban life.Alcott's book is something of a coming-of-age tale, as we join the fourteen year old Polly during her journey to the family of Fanny Shaw, one of her best friends. Raised in the countryside, Polly has previously only seen the rural life and is accustomed to the raising of livestock and the slow pace of life the country is known for. Arriving in the city, Polly is shocked by the affluence of her surroundings. She is taken aback by the numerous towering buildings, bustling streets, people in fashionable dress and fancy decor, and their fanciful habits. Although she makes a return visit each year, Polly is excluded from the Shaws' social circle on account of her manners, which her urbanized counterparts think quaint and ""countrified"".

First published in 1871, "Little Men" or "Life at Plumfield with Jo's Boys" is considered the second book in the unofficial "Little Women" trilogy by author Louisa May Alcott. "Little Men" follows the adventures of Alcott's beloved character Jo March and her husband, Professor Fredreich Bhaer, as they run their Plumfield Estate School. As to be expected, Jo and her husband do not run their school along conventional lines and they encourage their students to have pets, gardens, and even weekly pillow fights. The novel details six months in the daily lives and struggles of the Bhaers and their children, family, friends, and the pupils that attend the school. Jo's characteristic intelligence, good humor, and playful spirit help both her students as well as her sister Meg's children navigate the pitfalls and challenges of becoming adults. The experiences of the youngsters as they make mistakes and are guided by caring and pragmatic adults exemplify important life lessons and help them grow into proper young gentleman and ladies. The same love of family, sense of charity and industry, good humor, kindness, and generosity that made "Little Women" such an enduring classic may be found in this heartwarming tale as well. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper and is illustrated by Reginald Birch.
