This study of modern cartels examines four of their major aspects: the production and consumption patterns; the effects of price fluctuation on importers and exporters; the formation of cartels to prevent weak and variable prices; and likely effects of tightening raw material markets.
Globalization has forced firms into more direct competition; the result has been global price-fixing. This situation has greatly challenged antitrust authorities. This work sets a practical explanation of the history of cartels and antitrust law, and provides suggestions as to how potential reforms of antitrust laws could improve the situation.
