One of the most important changes in industrialised societies is the trend to early retirement. This volume is concerned with early exit from employment, the well-being of the early retired, and the policy issues raised.

The book is the result of a concentrated and co-operative effort to discover the main dimensions of personality and to define them operationally, that is, by means of strictly experimental, qualitative procedures. More than three dozen separate researches were carried out on some 10,000 normal and neurotic subjects.
