This research discusses the role of reading short stories in developing students' reading skills. This experiment aims to find out to what extent short stories can affect the reading skills of high school students in Saudi government schools. The research methodology consists of a pre-test and a post-test. In addition to several short stories followed by questions about the content of what was read in the story. This strategy was implemented on a a target sample of 200 students studying at the three secondary levels.
