I Zimbabwe har borgerkrigen hærget, og pigen Darling må navigere i en skrøbelig og voldelig verden. Forfatteren har modtaget en lang række priser for romanen, bl.a. 2014 Hemingway/PEN prisen for bedste debutroman. I 2013 var romanen shortlistet til MAN Booker prisen.
