The Gables in Durban was the authors home for ten years. Being the playground for South Africa it was the best place to retire once one's working life ended. We witnessed the construction and further development of the vehicle terminal building and its resultant increase of vehicles being exported and imported - departing/arriving Durban by road and rail traffic. We witnessed the transformation of the old the old railway 'Workshop' into a modern shopping center. The beach-front Marine Parade was also modernized during our stay in this Natal coastal resort city.
