The title of this book, The Urgent Voice, is a fitting one. It describes William Miller's communication of the burden, the obligation, he felt God had put upon him to warn the men and women of this day that the second coming of Christ and the end of all things earthly would come "about the year 1843." The route that led the New England farmer-soldier to that conclusion, the impact of his apocalyptic message upon the world, the manner in which it spread, the crushing results for Miller and his followers of the two "disappointments" and their aftermath, and developments that led to the growth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church from the Millerite movement are unfolded in this book.
