A healthy leader has a horizontal style with a vertical goal. In other words, be team-minded and link arms with those on your team. Their job is not to help you climb a ladder of success, but together you reach the goals that you and your team have made. The purpose of leadership is to lead in a healthy, horizontal way by being a team player, making the most of your influence and your team. Too many leaders lead in a vertical way, climbing the ladder of success, not instilling the tools and principles of healthy leadership, even using their influence to manipulate those on their team. You will dig into companies such as Home Depot and General Electric, finding what a horizontal, healthy, extraordinary leaders look like.
