The Citizen is an early prose work relating to Roy Fisher and his native city of Birmingham - previously thought to have been lost - which was the precursor of City, his signature collage of poetry and prose including prose sections from The Citizen. This edition includes the original text of The Citizen along with three variant versions of City.
This volume brings together Roy Fisher's rare autobiographical sketches, the memoirs of his life as a jazz pianist, his tributes to musicians, writers, and painters of various kinds, a number of his book reviews, and comments on classic forebears such as Powys, Pound, Bunting, and the Black Mountain poets.
Excerpts from several interviews conducted throughout the author's career and spliced together to form a coherent narrative of his development and his aesthetic. The book also includes an autobiographical piece on Fisher's early years as well as other short prose pieces that are otherwise unobtainable.
A collection of new poems written by Fisher during his 80s - since his Costa-shortlisted collection Standard Midland - followed by gatherings of uncollected poems mainly written during the 1950s and 1960s.
Expanded edition of Roy Fisher's definitive retrospective edition to which the Costa-shortlisted "Standard Midland" (2010) has been added.
