Books by Ryokan

An anthology of the verse of Ryokan (1758-1831), a Buddhist monk of the Zen sect, who was a major figure in Tokugawa poetry. It contains not only representative works influenced by poets of the 8th-century, but also a number of Chinese poems (kanshi) which are doctrinal in nature.
