The book shows that human intentionality according to Kazimierz Obuchowski outlines the challenges that correspond to the implementation of human needs and goods. The most important feature of human intentionality is acting in accordance with the human subjective standard, which includes the views of a man who sees himself as the source of his own behavior, his own goals as the object of his intentions, and the surrounding world as an opportunity to achieve his possibilities. One of the important activities based on a subjective standard is self-responsibility, the necessity to live his own life or the risk of taking responsibility for loss. All these actions result from the effort that can mark human life with different tensions and conflicts making life fuller.
Bilingual raising has been extremely important for me because I know from my own experience of learning English and Norwegian how much effort I had to put into studying them; it required a lot of time and work. Children acquire the second language naturally and without such sustained effort. I believe that bilingual raising is the greatest gift I can give to my son. I am convinced that Piotr will benefit from bilingualism for all his life, both social and the one connected with his career.
In his debut pamphlet, Micha┼é Choi┼äski explores human physicality in various religious, social and somatic contexts. The bodies featured in the ten poems that constitute Gifts Without Wrapping become objects of poetic reflection conducted with an authentic, searching voice, marked by restlessness and determination. In this selection of poems, as Choi┼äski’s invasive “unwrapping” of the carnal progresses, his Polish background becomes an important factor of his poetic meditations, adding to their multiversity. Gifts Without Wrapping is a winner of White Label Deux competition organized by the Hedgehog Press.
This book is an expansion of the author's previous work, privately published in the Polish language. This Stone Shall Be a Witness: The Jewish Cemetery in Wielkie Oczy is a descriptive and historical analysis of the art, iconography and inscriptions of gravestones in the Jewish cemetery in Wielkie Oczy a small village in southeastern Poland. It is a stunning and groundbreaking work by Andrzej Trzcinski, professor emeritus of Maria curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, a world authority and Poland's best known, most distinguished expert on the topic of traditional Jewish art, especially cemetery, sepulchral art in the Ashkenazi tradition. This publication will be of significant importance to people from around the world who are interested in the local monuments of material culture and enthusiats of Wielkie Oczy's past. It is also a resource for Jewish genealogists for whom it will be an important source of knowledge about the past of their families. Lastly, an important task of this work is its potential impact on standards of documenting Jewish cemeteries in Poland.
"God hath denied me that angelic measure / Without which no man sees in me the poet," writes Zygmunt Krasi¿ski in one of his most recognisable lyrics. Yet while it may be true that his lyric output cannot rival in quality the verses of the other two great Polish Romantics, Adam Mickiewicz and Juliusz S¿owacki, Krasi¿ski's dramatic muse gives no ground to any other. The Glagoslav edition of the Dramatic Works of Zygmunt Krasi¿ski provides the English reader, for the first time, with all of Krasi¿ski's plays in the translation of Charles S. Kraszewski. These include the sweeping costume drama Irydion, in which the author sets forth the grievances of his occupied nation through the fable of an uprising of Greeks and barbarians against the dissipated emperor Heliogabalus, and, of course, the monumental drama on which his international fame rests: the Undivine Comedy.A cosmic play, which defies simple description, the Undivine Comedy is both a de-masking of the Byronic ideal of the poet, whose nefarious, and selfish devotion to the ideal has evil consequences for real human beings, and a prophetic warning of the fratricidal class warfare that was to roil the first decades of the twentieth century. The Undivine Comedy is intriguing in the way that the author presents both sides of this question - the republican and that of the ancien régime - with sympathy and understanding. It is also striking how - in 1830 - the author foresaw the problems of the 1930s.As Czes¿aw Mi¿osz once put it, Krasi¿ski was insightfully commenting on Marxism while Karl Marx was still in high school. The Dramatic Works of Zygmunt Krasi¿ski also include the unfinished play 1846, which hints at how the author would have handled a work meant for the traditional stage, and the Unfinished Poem - the Dantean "prequel" to the Undivine Comedy, on which Krasi¿ski was working at his death. This book was published with the support of the Hanna and Zdzislaw Broncel Charitable Trust.
