This volume, first published in 1954, contains the original Spanish version of El burlador de Sevilla y convidado de piedra by the dramatist Tirso de Molina (1579-1648). An English editorial introduction and short bibliography are also included. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in Tirso and Spanish literature.
La vengenza de Tamar was first published in 1968 and is one of the outstanding plays of Spanish Golden Age dramatist Tirso de Molina (1580?-1648). The name was the pseudonym of a Mercedarian friar, Fray Gabriel Tellez whilst the plot comes from the biblical story in II Samuel xiii.
Molina's tragedy of epic proportions, based on the Old Testament story, which transcends its biblical origins. Premiered at The Lyric Hammersmith in a successful and much-lauded production.
