Theseus, Duke of Athens, asks, “How shall we find the concord of this discord?” Join Shakespeare as he offers us a classically entertaining solution to this problem. Under pain of death, Hermia flees Athens and spends a mad Midsummer night along with her friends along with other city-dwellers in a nearby forest. Unbeknownst to the Athenians, the forest is inhabited by a legion of fairies and the mischievous hobgoblin Puck. The fairies’ misguided attempt to help out the humans with a magical herb leads to mayhem. As the buffoon Bottom says, the night in the forest becomes “a dream, past the wit of man to say what dream it was”.
‘Henry VIII’ is a highly entertaining historical play by William Shakespeare that dramatizes court intrigues and personal vendettas between the King’s advisors. Melodic dialogue expresses the characters’ inner turmoil as loyalties are tested throughout the riveting story. Fans of British historical dramas such as ‘The Tudors’ starring Henry Cavill and Natalie Dormer, or ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ starring Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson will enjoy this compelling and provocative version of Henry VIII’s reign.William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was an English playwright and poet who is often referred to as ‘The Bard’ due to his standing as one of the most talented poets ever. Shakespeare has not only inspired authors such as Herman Melville and Charles Dickens, but many phrases used commonly today were coined by The Bard including ‘break the ice’. Shakespeare’s timeless plays are still studied to this day and focus on the range of human emotion, romance, and conflict while remaining endlessly entertaining. Shakespeare is the best-selling playwright of all time and his works have been translated into more than 100 languages. ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ is one of Shakespeare's most popular plays. It is an absorbing romantic comedy as two couples find themselves in farcical situations as lies are spread and treacherous plots are enacted. The story revolves around Claudio and Hero who are to be wed and Beatrice and Benedick who refuse to reveal their true feelings to each other. The arrival of the villainous Don John threatens to destroy these couples as a masquerade ball provides him with the opportunity to sow distrust. Tragedy strikes as Don John’s deceit plagues the couples and they must overcome his wickedness and rekindle their love. ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ portrays Shakespeare’s standing as one of the finest dramatists and humourists in English literature. The dialogue between Beatrice and Benedick in particular is full of wit as they constantly duel with their words. The tension rises throughout the play as suspicion spreads amongst the characters until it reaches a violent climax as the truth is unmasked. The theme of gender conventions and the different social behaviour expected of honourable women and men remains as relevant today as when it was written. The combination of Shakespeare’s humour and lyrical prose makes this poignant play the perfect read for fans of Oscar Wilde. ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ was adapted into a movie in 2012 by Joss Whedon, director of ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ starring Nathan Fillion.William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was an English playwright and poet who is often referred to as ‘The Bard’ due to his standing as one of the most talented poets ever. "Að vera, eða ekki vera, þarna er efinn."Hamlet segir söguna af hinum unga krónprins Danmerkur. Faðir hans heimsækir hann sem draugur, til þess að segja honum að það var frændi Hamlets, Kládíus, sem varð honum að bana. Hamlet virðist láta undan brjálæðinu og hyggur á hefndir frænda síns, sem hefur nýlega kvænst móður hans. We all know what it’s like to be in love, but when love is placed within the context of anxieties, desires and beliefs, will it survive? The sisters Bianca and Katherine might be as opposite as chalk and cheese, yet marriage finds its way into both their lives. Prompted by the notion of a love free of idealism, Petruchio is ready to marry Katherine with or without her will. Can she learn to love him? Or will marriage without love always be filled with terror and deception?Although believed to be written in the late 1500s, this classic romance is still very relevant today. Whether you will perceive Katherina and Petruchio’s relationship as romantic and energetic or violent and oppressive, this play unmistakably offers us a perpetual take on the major theme: the battle of the sexes. But unlike most modern day romances emotional desires are put second in this play’s exploration of love, marriage and courtship. If you saw and loved director Gil Junger’s "10 Things I Hate About You", this is the best-seller behind the film.William Shakespeare (1564-1616) is widely considered the world's greatest dramatist and is often referred to as England's national poet or the Bard. The Rape of Lucrece (1594) is a narrative poem by William Shakespeare about the legendary Roman noblewoman Lucretia. In his previous narrative poem, Venus and Adonis (1593), Shakespeare had included a dedicatory letter to his patron, the Earl of Southampton, in which he promised to compose a "graver labour". Accordingly, The Rape of Lucrece has a serious tone throughout. The poem begins with a prose dedication addressed directly to the Earl of Southampton, which begins, "The love I dedicate to your Lordship is without end." It refers to the poem as a pamphlet, which describes the form of its original publication of 1594.The dedication is followed by "The Argument", a prose paragraph that summarizes the historical context of the poem, which begins in medias res.The poem contains 1,855 lines, divided into 265 stanzas of seven lines each. The meter of each line is iambic pentameter. The rhyme scheme for each stanza is ABABBCC, a format known as "rhyme royal", which has been used by Geoffrey Chaucer, John Milton and John Masefield
