  • - The life, last voyage and wreck of Titanic's tragic twin
    by Simon Mills
    £20.99

Launched in 1914, two years after the ill-fated voyage of her sister ship, RMS Titanic, the Britannic was intended to be superior to her tragic twin in every way. But war intervened and in 1915 she was requisitioned as a hospital ship. Just one year later, while on her way to collect troops wounded in the Balkans campaign, she fell victim to a mine laid by a German U-boat and tragically sank in the middle of the Aegean Sea.There her wreck lay, at a depth of 400 feet, until it was discovered 59 years later by legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau. In 1996 the wreck was bought by the author of this book, Simon Mills.Exploring the Britannic tells the complete story of this enigmatic ship: her construction, launch and life, her fateful last voyage, and the historical findings resulting from the exploration of the well-preserved wreck over a period of 40 years. With remarkable sonar scans and many never before seen photographs of the wreck, plus fold-out sections of the original Harland & Wolff ship plans, not previously published in their entirety, Exploring the Britannic finally details how the mysteries surrounding the 100-year-old enigma were laid to rest, and what the future might also hold for her.

  • by Mr Stuart Owen
    £8.99

Vespa and Lambretta remain the two most iconic motor scooter brands, even four decades after the latter's demise. But what made them such a European sensation in the postwar era? And why were they particularly popular in Britain in the 1950s and '60s? Motor scooter expert Stuart Owen explains the rise of Innocenti's Lambretta and Piaggio's Vespa, from the wartime ruins of Italy, through years of plenty as the two manufacturers exploited a ready market for affordable, economic transport, and then their decline into more uncertain times as motor cars trespassed on their success. He also explores the rich history of accessorizing and customizing the scooters, their essential role in the mod movement, and the revival in Vespa's fortunes following the release of the cult film Quadrophenia.

  • by Floyd Clymer
    £27.49

348 pages, with more than 200 illustrations and charts, size 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Originally published under the same title by Floyd Clymer in 1961 this revised edition was republished in 2015 by VelocePress. Written in easy to understand language, this is possibly the most user-friendly and comprehensive owner's workshop manual ever published for first generation 283 cu. in. V8 powered Corvettes. There are detailed instructions for the overhaul, service and maintenance of the major mechanical and electrical components. A section on RPO's identifies each option by part number, and their installation and effects on performance are discussed. In addition, there is a comprehensive section on the various fuel injection systems fitted to this series of Corvettes. Finally, there is a section on 'Increasing Power and Performance'. The reproduction of a factory handbook included in the original Clymer publication has been omitted due to the fact that there were numerous variations of the official Chevrolet handbook that were issued during the production run of this series of Corvettes. Therefore, it is recommended that this manual be used in conjunction with the 'Owners Handbook' that was issued with your automobile. Also, the 1960 AMA specifications have likewise been omitted as they are no longer relevant. Out-of-print and unavailable for many years, this book is becoming increasingly more difficult to find on the secondary market and we are pleased to be able to offer this reproduction as a service to all first generation Corvette owners, restorers and enthusiasts worldwide.

The First Three Shelby Cobras, the third book in the acclaimed Exceptional Cars series, tells the story of three remarkable cars, the first AC Cobras created by the legendary Carroll Shelby in 1962 and now favorites of sports-car enthusiasts throughout the world. The prototype CSX2000 has been described as the “most important American car”, although it was built on a British AC Ace chassis with an American Ford V8 engine. It was retained by the Shelby family until 2016, when it sold at auction for a record $13.75 million. CSX2001 was the first production Cobra, and was delivered to American racing driver Ed Hugus. It was later sold to Frenchman Jean-Marie Vincent, who raced in the Tour de France and in numerous European hillclimbs.  CSX2002 was the first Cobra to race and nearly won its inaugural outing at Riverside, driven by Bill Krause, until sidelined by a broken rear hub. It did take the first ever Cobra win, with Dave MacDonald at Tucson in March 1963. Its success led to a series of competition wins that made Shelby's Cobras famous and admired across the globe. All three cars are now the pride of car collections in the United States of America. CSX2000 and CSX2002 are part of the Larry Miller Collection, and CSX2001 belongs to California-based motorsport aficionado Bruce Meyer.

344 pages, with more than 200 illustrations and charts, size 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Originally published under the title 'Sprite and Midget Owner's Manual and Service Manual' by Floyd Clymer just prior to his untimely death in 1970, this revised and updated edition was republished in 2015 by VelocePress. Written in easy to understand language, this is possibly the most user-friendly and comprehensive owner's workshop manual ever published for the 948cc, 1098cc and 1275cc series of Austin-Healey Sprites and MG Midgets. The contents of the original Clymer manual have now been reformatted into three separate sections appropriate to the three different engines that were used in this series of automobiles between 1958 through 1971. There is an engine/chassis 'Model Identification Chart' followed by a 'General Data' section that includes complete technical specifications for each model listed within the 'Model Identification Chart'. In addition, the 1275cc engine section includes comprehensive emission control information and test data. There are also additional wiring diagrams that were not included in the original 1970 publication. Finally, there is a section on 'Increasing Power and Performance' that also includes detailed step-by-step instructions and illustrations for the installation of a Judson Supercharger. The reproduction of a factory handbook included in the original Clymer publication has been omitted due to the fact that there were numerous variations of the official BMC handbook that were issued during the production run of this series of automobiles. Therefore, it is recommended that this manual be used in conjunction with the 'Owners Handbook' that was issued with your automobile. Out-of-print and unavailable for many years, this book is becoming increasingly more difficult to find on the secondary market and we are pleased to be able to offer this reproduction as a service to all 'Spridget' owners, restorers and enthusiasts worldwide.

  • by Eddie Baker
    £7.99

More complex and imposing than any other vehicle in the British emergency services, the fire engine has a long and interesting history. The earliest water pumps had been developed by the eighteenth century - basic manual pumps that had to be hauled around by people or horses, and were often only used on fire-insured premises. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries horse-drawn, steam-powered fire engines, and eventually motorised fire engines, came to revolutionise firefighting, offering far greater versatility and the brigades came to be run by the municipalities. In this beautifully illustrated introduction, Eddie Baker charts the history of fire engines and their variants, and the increasingly complex equipment they have carried, such as high-rise ladders and high-pressure hoses. He also explains the wider history of the fire service and how the engines have been shaped by its needs and, most importantly, those of the firefighters themselves.

  • - Shed-Built to Show Bike
    by Chris Daniels
    £20.49

Building a custom motorcycle has never been more popular, with even the major manufacturers keen to capitalize on the growing trend.  A custom motorbike is the product of an owner using their own skills to produce an individual machine, and with the right tools and approach it is well within most people's means to take a standard machine, new or second-hand, and make it their personal statement.  Providing clear and practical advice, this new book, introduces the reader to the techniques and processes needed to customize any motorcycle.  Eschewing the practice of using expensive off-the-shelf parts, it shows how the shrewd use of salvaged and alternative sources is not only economic but also results in a satisfyingly unique custom machine.  Projects demonstrate how to make custom parts, while examples of how different custom bikes were built by the author show how they are designed and put together. The book covers an introduction to the main styles on which today's custom scene was founded; choosing a suitable bike and how to make decisions when buying second-hand; workshop setup and tools; components of a bike and custom parts; basic improvements and the essential maintenance to make a safe and usable bike; modifying frames and building seats, tanks and other components; welding, cleaning and preparation for painting.
