In my first book the Nature Spirit, Moonpool, told of her interaction with the humans as they developed from the last Ice Age until just before the Roman Occupation. This follows on from there through the Roman Occupation, the Middle Ages and right up to the present day. As Christianity spreads there are times when Moonpool, because she is a Nature Spirit or a Pagan Fertility Goddess, is at odds with the established Church, yet she is simply a created spirit ranking slightly lower than the angels and higher than the fairies. She is more concerned with the people of the valley and continues to get involved with them. She prevents conflicts, she helps them through the Black Death, she helps with personal problems and she even solves a murder and saves men from being crushed while digging a railway tunnel. It is a story of friendship, of loss, sadness and joy. Moonpool knows that she will never be human but the one thing she wants is to be remembered, because in this age of climate change humanity needs the Nature Spirits more than ever. This may be called 'Moonpool Revelation' but there are more than one revelations in this book and much of our perceived history is challenged. You have to decide, is this a work of fiction, or have I been talking to a Nature Spirit?

Full of adventure, wonder, mischief, and magic, The Arabian Nights has enthralled readers for centuries. These are the tales that saved the life of the beautiful and clever Shahrazad, whose husband, the king, executed each of his wives after a single night of marriage. Beginning an enchanting story each evening, Shahrazad always withheld the ending, and the king spared her life for one more day so he could learn what happened. A thousand and one nights later, her life was spared forever.Folklorist Andrew Lang's rendition of these classic tales has been a favorite for more than a hundred years. Some of the best-known tales include those of the Merchant and the Genii, the Fisherman, Haroun-al-Raschid, Blind Baba Abdalla, Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp, and, of course, the seven voyages of Sinbad the Sailor. Andrew Lang's retelling of these wonderful stories makes them suitable for children as well as adults to enjoy.

Stories are all around us.They're in the TV and movies we so adore, in the video games we play, and of course in the books we read. They're in newspapers and magazines, too; in the conversations we share with old friends, and with new ones. They're on our mobile phones, in aeroplanes, in submarines, and even in our dreams. Our obsession with, and craving for, stories rests squarely with the way we are so absorbed by them, just as it does with the way we don't need to continually consider how and why they work. Most of the time, when reading or listening to stories, we forget that these tales have been shaped through the passage of time. Like pebbles in a river smoothed by rushing waters, they were honed through centuries of telling and retelling. The stories contained in this anthology are a fragment of a tradition that has shaped humanity, just as it has been shaped by humanity. At The Scheherazade Foundation we regard stories and storytelling as an achievement of our species equal in significance to the development of language, art, and architecture. We invite you to dip into the tales in this small treasury - gleaned as they are from various corners of the world - to reflect about them, and to consider the wisdom they hold.
The perfect companion to Viking Folktales and Norse Myths.Icelandic folktales are the close cousins of Viking fairy stories, although perhaps a little darker in their tone, but they share many of the same themes of innocence and trickery, triumph of good sense over pride, and all with a strong moral message. One particular characteristic though is that often the prince is rescued by the princess who has suffered much hardship in the journey to rescue the foolish male from the clutches of an ogre or a wicked crone. Stories include: The Five Brothers, The Giantess and the Granite Boat, The Faor and Dark Isolde, Fertram and Hildur.FLAME TREE 451: From mystery to crime, supernatural to horror and myth, fantasy and science fiction, Flame Tree 451 offers a healthy diet of werewolves and robots, mad scientists, secret worlds, lost civilizations and escapist fantasies. A powerful cycle of stories from many mythologies, from Greek to Norse, Japanese to Slavic. And there there are recurring themes, with heroes yearning their loved ones in the underworld, so from Japan comes the tale of Izanagi searching for Izanami in Yomi, the land of shadows and the dead; and Polynesian God Māui journeying to find his mother and father in the Otherworld. A warrior leader and builder of many temples, the Pharaoh Ramses II was the greatest ruler of his Age.Regarded as the greatest of all Pharaohs, Ramses II reigned at the height of Ancient Egypt's power and influence. He led military campaigns with his father from a young age, married at 15, eventually amassing over 200 wives and concubines and over 150 children, and lived to the age of roughly 95 years old. He expanded the territory of his nation through many battles and with victory brought back vast treasures and wealth, opened new trade routes, and fuelled the vast building projects which would attest to the glory of the Pharaoh and his people. Among the hundreds of buildings he planned were the temples of Karnak and Abu Simbel, and his mortuary temple the Ramesseum, which contained a library with over 10,000 scrolls, the largest of its kind in that era. The gorgeously decorated tomb to his first wife Nefertari is a final testament to the glory of Ramses II. Beautiful edition taking the reader through the origins and history the mighty Celts, known at the time of Cleopatra and Julius Caesar, highlighting the origins of modern fiction in myth and fable. To most of us, Celtic culture is at once distinctive and enigmatic. Though we may acknowledge the Celtic heritage of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Spain (Galicia) and France (Brittany), and be familiar with the mythology and literature that has given us Arthurian legend and all manner of boastful gods, High Kings, wilful Queens, noble warriors, fairies, goblins and wizards, few of us are aware that the origins of Celtic people lie in Austria, or that the many tribes that made up this very broad designation have a history that spans much further afield, to ancient Greece and Egypt. This fascinating new book, written by Martin Dougherty and with a foreword by Prof Ralph Haussler, covers the history that has fed the legends: the origins, migrations, allegiances, society, culture, myths and literature of the Celts, from the 'Hallstatt Era' beginning in 1200 BCE to the Gaels of western Scotland and northeastern Ireland and eventual Christianization. Flame Tree Collector's Editions present the foundations of speculative fiction: authors, myths, tales and history without which the imaginative literature of the twentieth century would not exist, bringing the best, most influential and most fascinating works into a striking and collectable library. Each book features a new Introduction and a Glossary of Terms or lists of Ancient Leaders.
