"A large-hearted reimagining of beloved all-American legends, this ... debut novel brings men of myth Paul Bunyan and John Henry alive like never before, teaming up for an adventure quest with deeper interrogations of race, class, and industrialization. When we first meet Paul Bunyan--legendary larger-than-life lumberjack and classic figure from American mythology--he is still just a man, and one down on his luck. With a load of family debts on his broad back, Bunyan is eking out a miserable miner's life in the bleak hamlet of Lump Town, a perpetually grey walled city controlled by famed industrialist El Boffo (author of the bestselling book Awaken the Capitalist Within!). When Bunyan's beloved wife Lucette falls gravely ill with a disease caused by the mysterious mineral Lump, he sets off on a quest to save her, aided only by a mythical creature known as the Chilali, who commands that Bunyan follow the Twisty Path to meet his destiny. That path leads to The Windy City--and to John Henry. Like Bunyan, Henry is not yet the 'steel-driving' hammer man who raced the steam drill and won. Instead, we find him on the run from the chain gang in which he was falsely imprisoned. In order to escape to freedom with his genius wife Polly and brilliant young son, Henry and Bunyan are going to have to work together. As an unlikely team, these massive mythic men must solve riddles, forge weapons, plumb labyrinths, brawl with behemoths, and do battle with the bombastic El Boffo, on a journey that will not only make them into the men they are meant to be, but reshape the landscape of their country forever"--

His mousy temptress is pure, innocent, and untouched. But not for long…Markellan Bran, the brutishly handsome Prince of Kentigen, is used to taking what he wants, and what he wants from first sight is the plain, simple, and American Violet Havisham for his wife. He sees what most don't when he looks at her-a curvy angel hiding an inner vixen. One who's hot as sin and a woman complex and challenging enough to be his bride. He is confident that he can conquer anything-and Violet's heart is next.Violet Havisham finds everything about the brash, nearly uncivilized prince unsettling. She's recently left the monastery and craves a quiet life. Falling for a devil of man like Prince Markellan would be a royal mistake. He's too big, too brutish, and too darkly sensual for her. He says he wants to give her the one thing she left the cloister for-a baby. But surely she'd be better off adopting than taking her chances with a reckless, dangerous beast. In his culture, the honeymoon comes before the wedding, and the bridegroom must convince the bride to marry him based on his honeymoon "performance." So Prince Markellan makes her a deal-give him one week to satisfy her every need, and if she can walk away, he'll let her go.Author confession: If she can walk at all after a week in his palace, it will be a miracle. If you know what I mean. Did I mention that Prince Markellan's country is a fertility culture that worships women and all things carnal? The men there spend years learning the arts of pleasing and caring for their women. And you know he's not going to let her go with his royal baby in her belly. If you're looking for a curvy heroine, a royal hero, beastly alpha dirty talk, and opposites attract in an instalove minute, you're in the right place. It wouldn't be a Brill Harper book if it wasn't as sweet as it is filthy.

When a chance meeting with an old man leads to a captivating story, the author is swept into a journey through time and the paranormal. Starting in 1966 at Oxford College, the story follows a professor's pet project to uncover a message that spans all of written history-a message from the devil himself. He leaned forward, "Do you believe in God?"I swallowed hard. This was not really something we talked about, and unlike now being an atheist wasn't all the rage. It was a personal thing."Professor?" He did not like my lack of answer."It's a simple question, young man. Do you believe in God? Or is what a little bird whispered in my ear untrue?"Before I could answer he slapped one of the piles. "...and I am wasting my time again.">"I.. Well... What does... Well no."He smiled a satisfied smile and leaned back a little."Good. Good. This is a good start. Honesty. Finally."He put his spectacles back on and opened up his calendar book to jot a note. He shoved a piece of paper across his desk and pointed at a line with his fountain pen. A rather large blot accumulated as he waited for me to take the pen. "Sign here."--- I met Simon-not surprisingly-at a cafe. As I try to get out at an early hour and write, it seemed that our schedules matched-at least on Sundays. He was a nicely dressed gentleman that had a story to tell...

The epic journey of Venu concludes in this third volume of BLOOD OF EMPIRES. Venu emerges from hiding in Samaria, still as an undercover mercenary for Herod Antipas, the tetrarch of Galilee and Peraea, who beheaded John the Baptist. After reuniting with his Spartan teacher from Athens's Lyceum, he will travel to Jerusalem. Together, they will arrive in Jerusalem just before the triumphal entrance of Israel's promised Messiah riding in on a donkey's colt, which in less than a week will lead to the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of this newly proclaimed King of the Jews on charges of sedition and blasphemy. During Venu's search for truth, love unfolds as the empire of Rome collides with the King of Kings. There will be life and death struggles with enemies and terrorists; and a meeting with Lazarus, a man who was dead for four days, who will describe Paradise to the searching fugitive, Venu. The story concludes following Jesus's resurrection and after the two kingdoms must struggle with ultimate truth and lies. Something never seen before begins with 120 people who will start to alter the world forever. The final book of the TRILOGY OF BLOOD OF EMPIRES is an unforgettable story where knowledge and understanding have been twisted and tangled, even to the present. Each of us must continue the same cosmic and eternal struggle with our Heavenly Creator. NOTE: The dating of events and ages of historical characters found in the BLOOD OF EMPIRE TRILOGY results from extensive research and conclusions based on the author's master's thesis, The Date of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, published in 1984 at Wayne State University. Mythology
Mythology is the foundation of many of today's stories, take for example the stories of King Arthur and Merlin, a well-known story that goes back to the celtic mythologies. It has fascinated many writers all around the world and with good reason. Myths take you on fascinating and sometimes even magical journeys and into the ancient worlds of the past. The mythologies build on folklore and you can learn a lot about the ancient lifestyles by reading mythology books. The themes in mythologies are often built around honor and bravery, but the tales also have their own universal moral message.

Norse mythology books
In the Nordic countries we have a long and proud history of folk tales and some of them can be traced all the way back to the Middle Ages and even before that, to what we describe as the Norse period, where all the Scandinavian countries were connected as one and not divided into nations. The North was instead formed by many smaller societies, who lived comparatively insulated and connected to nature. Such a life could be hard and created fertile soil for folklore and the belief in supernatural creatures, which are found in many folk tales. Most of the tales were part of an oral tradition and were often handed down through many generations. The mythology tales were first written down and converted into mythology books many years after they were told for the first time.
We cannot mention the Norse period without the Vikings. Vikings are known all over the world for their strength, ships and sometimes brutal conquests, but the Vikings were defined by so much more than that. They had for example a vivid and intriguing tradition for mythology. To the Vikings they were so much more than myths, it was their religion. The Norse religion referred to as Asatru consists of multiple gods, goddresses, brave heroes and volvas, which were strong female sorcerers and fortune tellers. If you want to find your way to get started in Nordic mythology you can find a good description and overview in Penguin Book of Norse myths - Gods of the Vikings

Greek mythology books
Some of the greatest and most famous myths are found in Ancient Greece. You might have heard about the gods Zeus and Prometheus, the goddesses Athena and Aphrodite, and the heroes Hercules and Achilles? They are just a few of the unique figures of Ancient Greek mythology. They are found in some of the greatest classics of world literature; the Iliad and the Odyssey written by Homer. At Tales you can get them as mythology books in their traditional verse form, but we would also recommend you to take a look at Stephen Fry’s interpretations of the classical tales. Fry takes the timeless classics into modern times by rewriting the mythologies in a modern, easy understandable english, but he still keeps the essence of the Ancient mythologies. You can find Stephen Fry’s Heroes and Mythos in our selection of mythological books.

Egyptian mythology books
Another world of mythologies is found in Ancient Egypt. Here we come across Ancient gods and goddesses with faces formed as animals. One of the central gods in Egyptian mythology is the sun god Ra. Ra was the incarnation of the sun, which was the foundation of life. In Egyptian mythology we also find mummies. Mummies were the deceased faraos, who were embalmed and covered in gaze to restore them for the afterlife. The god Osiris would then help them on their way through the afterlife. The mummies were placed in their own pyramid, who would show the greatness of the faraos for the times to come. The pyramids still stand in Egypt and show the history of the past. Among our egyptian mythology books you find the book Egyptian Mythology, which has collected all the fascinating tales of Ancient Egypt and all its gods, goddesses and legendary creatures.

Japanese mythology books
You can also find japanese mythology books in Tales’ selection. The japanese myths are little known to people, but contain many amazing stories. You can for example find the story behind the samurais, an Ancient collection of warriors in the japanese armies. A samurai had to live up to certain virtues in order to keep his status. A samurai should both be loyal and have a high level of endurance, modesty, and honor. You could learn a lot about a country from its mythology, because it is the foundation of the country’s culture, although a lot of changes have found place since then. If you aren’t familiar with japanese mythology, we recommend you to read the Handbook of Japanese Mythology among our collection of japanese mythology books.
