The Court Cities of Northern Italy examines the painting, sculpture, decorative arts, and architecture produced in nine important court cities of Italy during the fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth centuries. The six essays, specially commissioned for this volume, explore the interaction of artists and their civic and/or courtly patrons.
This volume examines works of art in a variety of media produced in Florence during the period 1300 to 1600. Chronologically organized, each chapter examines works of art and architecture within the context of the major political, social, economic and cultural events of the period and is lavishly illustrated.
