Books in the Cornerstones of Computing series

Several of the chapters describe a substantial piece of software, and most of these programs are collected on a website for free downloading. This book was edited in honour of Richard S.Bird, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford, on his 60th birthday.

This title covers the basic theory of design and implementation in depth using Linux as an example. It should appeal to an instructor who is already facing the challenge of drawing material from many sources, and encourage others to take up this approach to the teaching of operating systems.
