In the work "History", Thomas Warton provided a narrative of English poetry, from the Norman Conquest to the early 17th century. This manuscript, together with additional text by Warton, annotated proof pages and an index, is included in this volume.
The publication of Percy's Reliques marked the point at which 18th century neo-classicism became late 18th century Gothic Romanticism. A superb example of period publishing, it contains scarce proofsheets, excluded from the original edition.
