The fact that some who profess to be Christians fall away from the faith has always been an obstacle to Godâ¿s people, but we are told in the Bible that those who God has called are saved forever. How then are we to understand the saintsâ¿perseverance in the Christian life? How are we to view our lives in the light of Godâ¿s everlasting covenant and Christâ¿s completed work of salvation? What is our motivation to finish the race?John Owenâ¿s work The Doctrine of the Saintsâ¿Perseverance Explained and Confirmed was originally published in 1654 and this easierâ¿toâ¿read abridgement is still relevant to Christians today.
The working of God in all parts of our lives, in small things as well as great, we call â¿providenceâ¿. These special workings of his providence are not mere accidents. From the day of our birth, to the day of our death, God is working for the good of those who have been called according to his purpose. In this simplified and abridged form of his 1677 classic work entitled Divine conduct or The Mystery of Providence John Flavel addresses how God works providentially in our lives, as well as why and how we should think deeply about these providences. An encouragement to Christians to taste and see the good God has done in our own lives.
This book contains two parts. The first is an updated and abriged version of Horatius Bonarâ¿s book The Everlasting Righteousness, first published in 1874. Its central theme is the substitutionary work of Jesus Christ. Bonar shows that, in Jesus Christ, God has provided the only way to deal with the problem of our sin. Because Jesus is the perfect substitute, anyone who believes in him receives a legal pardon from God, and the perfect righteousness of Jesus becomes theirs. This truth has enormous consequences for believers, and Bonar explains some of them in this wonderful book. The second part is an updated version of Regeneration by J. C. Ryle, about the new birth. Ryle addresses what it means to be born again, and what it looks like in the life of a Christian.
