Tier made one promise to Junco. Save House. So that's what Tier does. He picks up the AI, takes her to Gideon's island, and does his best to come to come to terms of what Junco did. But House has secrets of her own and Tier, Hand, and Annun are on a mission to figure them out. They have to. Because she's dying. And if she dies… She can't die. She just can't.
Reality Check. Tier is angry, Lucan's wild fantasy of lifting his banishment is insane, and two members of her team are dead. The only person she has left is House. And she's going to save her first no matter what. But as far as Junco's concerned, she has nothing more to lose after Inanna ripped off her wings and stole her future with Tier. She'll help Lucan and do her part in his stupid plan to "save the world", but all she really wants now is revenge. She's going to get Inanna back for what she's done. Even if it kills her.
She is no longer alone. Just more confused than ever. Junco is on the space station Amelia, newly morphed into her avian form, and Tier is on trial for treason for bringing her home. Lucan, her new commander, either hates or fears her. She's not sure which (or if one is better than the other considering she's no longer on Earth). But she can't go back and in order to stay and save Tier from his inevitable guilty verdict, she must prove herself worthy in a series of battles called Fledge. On the upside she has new team mates. Isten, the charmer. Braun, the one with the plan. But most important, Ashur. Tier's brother. Who is patient, and protective, and the perfect friend to guide her in this hostile, alien place. Soon she's one of them. Fighting, and killing, and… winning. But in the end saving Tier is the only thing that matters. And there's just one way to do that. Sacrifice.
Junco's mission is clear. Go back to Earth, grab all her siblings, and give them over to Lucan so he can save the Avian race. Seems pretty simple for the death-machine team called Aves 039. Their success seems inevitable. Especially now that she's twined to Istan and her and Tier are finally together. Until some guy named Gideon shows up saying they're old friends. And she has no memory of him. Or the man claiming to be her father. Both of whom spout dire warnings about Lucan and his plans for her and Tier. But mystery of who and what Junco really is has yet to completely unravel and there are more secrets to be revealed. And when they are… it just might break her.
