Books in the Mechanics: Analysis series

This publication reports the proceedings of a one-day seminar on The Application and Numerical Solution of Integral Equations held at the Australian National University on Wednesday, November 29, 1978.

After the construction of the coordinate functions, the next step is to approximate functions of a given class by linear combinations of the coordinate functions, and to derive in some appropriate norm an estimate of the error.

The investigation of many mathematical problems is significantly simplified if it is possible to reduce them to equations involving continuous or com pletely continuous operators in function spaces.
