Symposium S, 'Microelectromechanical Systems - Materials and Devices IV', focused on micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS).
This proceedings volume contains papers presented at Symposium I, 'Materials for End-of-Roadmap Scaling of CMOS Devices', and Symposium J, 'Materials and Devices for Beyond CMOS Scaling', held April 5-9 at the 2010 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco, California. These symposia attracted 106 presentations, of which twenty-two were invited.

Increasing awareness and concern for energy resources and the environment have stimulated significant advances in materials and technology for energy conversion in recent years. This volume focuses on novel materials, materials processing and device technologies for direct thermal-to-electric energy conversion, and emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of research needed to advance the field.
This third book in a series on nonvolatile memories builds on fundamental materials properties, materials integration, demonstration, and industrial devices gathered in those previous. A strong and increasing interest in nonvolatile memories, both domestic and international, indicates the worldwide importance of these materials and memory devices.

Organic electronics hold the promise for application in flexible displays, printable electronic circuits and inexpensively produced solar cells. Molecular electronics, on the other hand, aim at ultimate miniaturization with monolayers or even single molecules as the active elements of electronic devices. This book brings the two communities together for information interchange.
The focus of this book is on physical vapor deposition methods for growth of inorganic thin films, with special attention paid to ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) texturing. Topics include: milestones in IBAD texturing; IBAD texturing; IBAD long-length application and texturing by other techniques.

This book highlights nuclear materials issues and challenges on experimental and modeling platforms. Topics include: fundamental defect behavior; experimental and theoretical investigations of radiation damage; behavior of oxide dispersion strengthened steels and other advanced structural materials; corrosion and surface coatings; and modeling and performance of nuclear fuels.
The goal of this book is to elevate the laser remote sensing field to a technological level that can allow low-cost and reliable instruments for a wide range of scientific, commercial, military and space applications. Topics include: laser remote sensing instruments; fiber optic and semiconductor lasers; photodetection devices; and nanocrystal and photonic structures and devices.
Nonvolatile memories are becoming an increasingly important electronic component, due to the ever-increasing need for data storage in multimedia and other mobile applications where electronic components are replacing magnetic hard drives. This book covers recent research on new concepts for nonvolatile memories, for which new developments in materials science and technology are key.
The volume focuses on many aspects related to doping of semiconductors (Si, SiGe and Ge) for device fabrication, and explores areas for single-gate as well as multi-gate devices with planar and vertical architectures. Surface properties, coverage, bonding saturation and passivation, and annealing ambient are also discussed.
