She has published several journal articles, a book chapter and film criticism in popular publications. Amber Shields received her PhD in Film Studies from the University of St Andrews where she focused on how fantasy is used to tell stories of individual and collective trauma in films from around the world. She has taught Film and English courses at Mount Tamalpais College and currently works with nonprofits reimagining education and supporting the development of young leaders. She has published several journals articles and book chapters.

João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata are one of the most cosmopolitan duos in contemporary world cinema. ReFocus: The Films of João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata, paves the way for the study of the directors' work, critically analysing the various cinematic perspectives of their short and full-length feature films. In the first collection solely dedicated to their work, this book addresses the historical, political, stylistic, industry, and cultural dimensions of Rodrigues and da Mata's films, providing critical recognition for their contribution to world cinema. José Duarte teaches Cinema at the School of Arts and Humanities (UL) and he is a researcher at ULICES (University Lisbon Centre for English Studies). He co-edited the book The Global Road Movie: Alternative Journeys around the World (2018). Filipa Rosário is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Comparative Studies, University of Lisbon (CEC-UL). She co-edited the book New Approaches to Cinematic Space (2019), and is the author of O Trabalho do Actor no Cinema de John Cassavetes (2017).

Jocelyne Saab was one of the most important female filmmakers pioneering a sense of international emancipatory world cinema from the early 1970s to her death in 2019. This book is the first English-language study dedicated to her entire oeuvre which consisted of journalism, documentaries, experimental and feature films, as well as photography, art exhibitions and curation, and film festival organisation. In this book, a range of international scholars integrates her work into a cohesive study of all aspects of her oeuvre - filmic, activist and artistic - representing the global significance of Saab's work and the ongoing resonance of her ideals and activism in a worldwide perspective. Rakshi Banietemad is one of Iran's first female film directors. This book, the first English language study of her films and career, contains chapters by some of the most prominent scholars of Iranian cinema, as well as younger scholars with fresh points of view.Taking an interdisciplinary perspective, the book gives special attention to Banietemad's under-studied documentaries and films, including Under the Skin of the City (2000) and Tales (2014), while offering new perspectives on well-known works such as The Blue Veiled (1994) and The May Lady (1997). The contributors focus on questions of aesthetics and poetics, social realism, gender dynamics and the 'afterimages' and 'counter-memories' of revolution and war, and the book also includes an in-depth interview with Banietemad herself.Maryam Ghorbankarimi is a Lecturer in Film at Lancaster University. Her research concentrates on Iranian Cinema and transnational cinema and cultures, specifically the representation of gender in Middle Eastern cinemas.
