It's not until after a nearby village is raided that more people join and are allowed to live in the castle as long as they are willing to work. As the little community grows, they discover they need people with specific skills and they go and recruit them especially if they are oppressed.

Maggie is a fairy who is tired of wicked elves ruining the forest and killing her family and friends. She becomes a warrior and runs into the Guardians. Can they calm her down so she can accept them and they accept her?

The Guardians face a new threat from the centaurs which they never see coming until Faedin goes back to hide in the forest. She and others learn why centaur adolescence is so dangerous. They strive to keep the worst of it from destroying their world, but can they overcome their biology to save themselves and others?

Prince Nathan and Nathalie always had a complicated relationship before the White Clothed Men condemned her and other women as witches. When the Guardians learn of the witch hunts, they search for the White Clothed Men, Prince Nathan and Nathalie to get their stories and save as many women as they can.

Raelon discovers merfolks can breath water and air. She tells Faedin and the other Guardians only to learn that it could have some devastating consequences for merfolks who go and talk to the elves on the surface as foretold in a merfolk fairy tale.

Wild dragons have always been a problem on Platinum, as have wicked elves. When Silver Scales' romance with a wild dragon goes bad, the fight leaves her unconscious and no one is sure she will wake up. Questions arise from the Dragon Council and the Guardians about what to do about wild dragons.

Storm's son dies, but his daughter Anjilina lives and she gets warrior training without his knowledge. Storms tries to force her to marry for his advantage. When she refuses by running away, he attacks the Fire Caves unaware there are Guardians there. Anjilina defends the people who have accepted her and faces Storm with everyone watching.

The Guardians discover the City of Paradise after it was raided by orcs and the White Clothed Men. The people still living in the city are divided without any sense of families and many orphans. The women are courtiers who are patronized by men. One scout learns one courtier is planning to escape and that she's the key to rebuilding and reuniting the city.

The four realms were once unified until they couldn't agree on which element was the best of the four and the war began. Too many lives have been lost. Too many orphans couldn't stand it anymore. Four half elf half nymph maidens join forces with five dragons, a healer, a prince, and a child centaur. None are sure they will live as push themselves to see the end of the war.
