In book one of the Son of Samson series, Branan learns how his strength inherited from his father Samson might have been given to him for a purpose. This manga-style series is written by Gary Martin and illustrated by Sergio Cariello.
Although robbed and abandoned, Branan meets up with several unusual allies as he stumbles upon a plot by the Philistines to steal the Ark of the Covenant. But even though Branan is facing insurmountable odds, little does he know that when one works for God, one never works alone.
The Philistine commander Sidon becomes enraged when he finds that his prized bejeweled dagger has been stolen. Blaming Branan for all of his recent misfortunes, Sidon's thirst for revenge is at a fevered pitch. Will Branan be able to escape the wrath of the maddened commander, or will this be the end for the son of Samson?
While returning home after his adventures, Branan learns that one of his past traveling companions, Saphira, is about to be sold as a slave in the town of Jabneel. Branan must find a way to rescue Saphira before it's too late, but he runs into many of his old enemies in the process.
Branan gets mixed up in an adventure to retrieve the stolen Serpent Staff of Moses. But to what extent can he trust his new friends? And what of the special powers that staff is said to have? Branan realizes that the Serpent Staff, just as the famed hair of his father Samson, has no power on its own, but is a symbol of power that comes only from God.
