PDF file
The PDF is an open standard file format created by Adobe in 19993. Most devices from today have a program or an app that can read PDF files. If not then look at the overview on the bottom of this list, where you can see all of the programs that can read this type of file.
PDF files have been used to show 2-dimensional documents and are not depending on either screen or which device your using. A PDF file is fixated to secure that the text and photographs do not move (whereas ePub files are scalable). It can have its advantages if the ebook’s content loses its effect if it were to be moved around.
PDF files can be protected in two different ways:
Digital Watermark:
If a PDF file is digital watermarked it has an inserted “imprint” a visible place in the file. The imprint contains the buyer’s order number in case of abuse of the file, it can be traced. This is also called an “unprotected” file.
If the file is watermarked it does not affect the printing of the ebook, reading nor copying.
DRM
If the file is DRM protected it demands a special program to download and read the ebook on. This special program is called “Adobe Digital Editions” (ADE) and distinguishes from the program Adobe Reader, which is mostly known for reading PDF files on.
Open an PDF file:
Most PDF readers are free. We do recommend Adobes own program “Adobe Acrobat Reader” (https://get.adobe.com/dk/reader/).
Please notice: If the PDF file is DRM protected you would have to use the free program “Adobe Digital Editions” instead. (http://www.adobe.com/dk/solutions/ebook/digital-editions.html).
Alternatively, you can use “FoxIt Reader” (https://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/).
