Presented as a black and white graphic novel. THE LINCOLN BRIGADE tells the true story of 3,000 American volunteers who defied their government and traveled to Spain between 1937 and 1938 to fight fascism during the Spanish Civil War alongside the democratically elected government of the Republic of Spain. These volunteers called themselves The Lincoln Brigade. This graphic novel focuses on Oliver Law, an African American who fought and protested for worker rights in the 1930s United States. Law and other black American citizens volunteered on their own to go to Spain, and with little training, fighting in the Spanish Civil War against the fascist faction leader, General Francisco Franco. Law would eventually go on to lead the entire Lincoln Brigade army, integrated with both black and white soldiers, into combat. Law's assumption of command of the brigade took place 10 years before black and white soldiers were integrated in the US Army by President Harry S. Truman in 1948, to say nothing of any military group being led by a soldier of color.
Imalion is on the run, driven by fear and sorrow, exiled by usurpers who have branded him a traitor to the throne. His family is dead; he is forced to etch out a living in any way he can. A Famari girl named Eliana sacrifices her freedom for his sake, and Meramon, an exiled lord, joins them to help Imalion reclaim his life.On his journey, Imalion stumbles upon the charred ruins of the Myklamir capital, witnesses raids of savage Sharaglin as they attack the kingdoms, and narrowly escapes shadowy lurkers that have begun to prowl unprotected towns at night. But an even larger threat has risen to smite the land of Rylacia.Imalion watches as, in spite of the impending danger, a usurper on the Brucian throne tears the kingdoms apart with his fragmented rule. Imalion can save the kingdom. He is able, but is he ready?Imalion's Tale is Luke Manly's debut novel, and was written out of his longstanding love of fantasy. Its unique layout was a challenge that he hurdled while arguing with himself about different ways of approaching character's stories, and when asked why he chose this method, Luke explains that while he never predicted writing the whole story this way, he found that it was a perfect fit for Imalion's story and provided a unique window into Imalion's world.
"Intangible Souvenirs" is a compilation of selected poems and brief stories written by the author over the span of more than 50 years. Pieces written by candlelight in the jungle of South America, poems penned in bunkers under enemy fire during the Vietnam War, odes scribbled down by the sandy shores of tropical beaches, and expressive reflections of the dense, verdant woods of his childhood home in Pennsylvania, evoke a range of emotions to which nearly everyone can relate. Poetry and stories in the book explore joy in the wonder of a fresh snowfall, the magic of catching summer fireflies, the deep sorrow felt in losing a loved one, plus poignant examinations of many aspects of nature, courage, fear, life, and love beyond measure.
My Jesus My Child is a devotional book written especially for women. It is an umbrella of prayers that shield women from the downpour of emotions that attempt to steal their self-worth, joy and peace. When the cares of this world seem too much to bear, when there is no strength left to carry on with the endless needs of the day, when there too many responsibilities and too much pressure, there's a prayer for you. Listen as Jesus tenderly whispers that you are more than enough, you are a masterpiece and He loves you. Open My Jesus, My Child and let Jesus love, encourage and comfort you.
Sixteen-year-old Nixie sucks at being the daughter of a cult-leader. Forbidden to leave the beached boat where her father, his three wives, and their twenty followers pretend to have created Utopia, Nixie stares at the distant shoreline with a hunger deeper than the ocean itself. A hunger for a normal life-high school, college, and beyond. When Crew nearly drowns during a party on their beach, Nixie plunges into the ocean-and fierce rebellion against her father-to save him. As the two explore the strangeness of each other's worlds in stolen moments on dry land, they're caught up in a whirlwind of intensifying feelings. Rebellion's easy when you focus on what you hope to gain. It's a million times harder when you realize what you stand to lose.
