The arrangement may well be suitable, but is it bearable? As the new Earl of Lismore, it is Sandy Duncan's duty to save both his family and Lochlarren Castle from impending ruin. He has always known he must marry well, but his father's deathbed revelation of a slew of other debts creates an unexpected urgency to the situation. With his last breath, Sandy's father extracts a promise from him to accept the match he has arranged: a marriage to the daughter of a low-born but wealthy English merchant. While Juliana Godfrey has never had the recognition of Society's most elite, she has been able to take comfort in what she does have: money-and she has that in spades. Her father's newest ambition to marry her into the aristocracy, however, could provide her with both things. The fact that the Duncans are Scots-and Highland ones, at that-is not ideal, but an earldom simply cannot be refused.Despite being the face of the Duncan family's salvation, Juliana's reception at Lochlarren Castle is less than warm. As for the earl, he is bewildered to find his prospective bride arrogant and condescending, evidently expecting her future family to be barbaric. In spite of such shaky foundations, however, the match must proceed, bleak as the future may be to both participants. Will first impressions stand against the intimacy marriage brings, or are money and title all Sandy and Juliana can truly hope for from their union?***Enjoy the other books in the multi-author Castles & Courtship series, which can be read in any order: An Amiable Foe by Jennie GoutetTo Know Miss May by Deborah M. Anna Saint Anne is an elderly widow. Disabled and disenchanted with her age, she spends all of her days staring out the window... When her young grandson surprises his Grandma with a present.... A huge brown and white pit-bull, named Sir Dee-O-Gee, the laughter and love that grows between the enormous, ever-smiling dog, and his elderly owner, will bring a giggle or two to the reader. The moving story explores life outside of ourselves. Sir Dee-O-Gee, is an awesome addition to any book collection. Award-wining poet and artist, Angel Dunworth, writes on aging, disability, mourning and a return to society in this quirky thought-provoking book. She openly advocates the Animal Defense Leagues' Seniors for Seniors program, saying, "It is very important to be able to adopt a dog, especially if you've become a shut-in. It's a simple way to provide not only well-needed company but also perfect love. An animal's reliance on us can quickly go from mandatory to miraculous." Dunworth lives in San Antonio, with her husband, who she is quoted as saying, "Is the love of my life." Dedication: This book is dedicated to the grandchild who cares. You who listen to the stories of the elderly, looks at pictures, play cards. You who gift your time to help another, and truly cares about quality of life, this book is for you. You make all of the difference in the world. ******************************************************************************************Literary Titan Editorial ReviewSir Dee-O-Gee: The Dog Who Saved My Life, by Angel Dunworth, is a heartwarming children's book revolving around Anna Saint Anne, an elderly woman, her family, and an unexpectedly endearing canine companion. The book opens with Anna's life with her daughter Layla and grandson Ellis, highlighting their close bond through simple pleasures like playing cards and enjoying snacks. The narrative takes a turn when Ellis introduces a pit bull mix, Sir Dee-O-Gee, into Anna's life, initially as a temporary arrangement. This transformation in Anna's life, driven by the companionship of Sir Dee-O-Gee, is skillfully depicted, illustrating how this new relationship leads her to venture out of her comfort zone. In addition, her interactions with her neighbor, Mr. Finchley, add another layer of warmth to Dunworth's narrative. The canine character Sir Dee-O-Gee is a standout, particularly memorable for his distinct smile, which adds a unique charm to the story. Martín is a 9th-grader at the local high school who has been waiting for soccer season to start since...well, since he started playing when he was 5 years old. But Martín doesn't even make the 9th-grade team. But, not only has Martín been waiting for this day, but so has his father who is an avid soccer fan. What's Martín to do? Jamal is equally as excited for the sports season. He loves football more than anything and has been studying the game since elementary school. It's his senior year so he is hoping for a winning season and maybe even a look from some college scouts. But Jamal may not even get to play if he can't earn a passing grade in his worst class: Spanish. Jamal has a lot riding on this season in hopes of a scholarship. How will Jamal pass Spanish? Coach Albano is excited for the new season, too. Starting his third year as the head football coach, he's still the new guy with a lot to prove, but he's up for the challenge. The team definitely has the talent to make it to the playoffs, but there is not one player who has the skill necessary to kick the ball on special teams. Not one. And if that weren't enough, Coach's job is further tested by the director of the Board of Education. Which situation will be tougher for Coach to handle?
Bodies stack when Sasquatch is on crack! When a popular social media sensation and renowned Bigfoot hunter goes missing, her friends pickup on an important clue as to her disappearance when one of them discovers a camera with digital proof of the existence of bigfoot in the Appalachian Mountains where she and her cameraman went missing a few days earlier. Now the hunt is on to find the elusive cryptid and hopefully bring their friend back. As the band of trackers hit the mountain on this ambitious quest, one of the team harbors a dark secret. Little do the others know that one of them is addicted to a deadly synthetically-altered version of crack, known on the street as Agent Orange, because it both looks like orange candy and turns its users' eyes a hellish orange color. What makes the drug so nefarious, however is that it causes a high number of its users to become enraged; prone to fits of uncontrollable violence. These violent episodes are enhanced when consumed by animals, where they have no civilized willpower against becoming raging killers themselves, attacking anything - and anyone - in their path! Consequently, this expedition to the mountains will become an expedition to hell itself once the team realizes that not only are they about to find the ever-so-sought-after and (believed to be) beloved Bigfoot, but now are dealing with a raging, psychopathic Sasquatch, who has gotten ahold of the dangerous drug. In 1940, when the Germans invaded France, many independent résistance cells were formed in France. Initially, these résistance cells provided only minimum opposition to the Germans. The opposition was in the form of strikes, bureaucratic delays, and occasional vandalism. What the French Résistance needed was coordination, weapons, and training. To provide all groups that were resisting the Germans, the British formed the office of the Special Operations Executive (SOE). The SOE started training agents who were either flown or parachuted into the occupied territories. Through the 1941-1942 period, the résistance cells were provided short wave radios, weapons, and SOE covert agents, which provided training. Beginning in 1942, the Allies were engaged in bombing the Germans in the occupied territories. The bombing runs resulted in Allied planes being shot down. This, in turn, resulted in Allied fliers parachuting behind enemy lines. The French résistance would find some of the downed fliers before the Germans. The résistance formed a series of safe houses to move the downed fliers through France and into Spain. From Spain, the fliers were taken to the British consulates. From the consulates, the fliers were transported back to England via sea transport. The résistance was credited with saving hundreds of fliers through this underground network.
