Aspects are the mathematical relationships between planets in an individual's astrological chart. They are key factors in the study of astrology, for it is the interpretation of the relationship of one planet to another that explains human behavior. If we think of each planet as representing a quality of energy or a voice within, then two planets relating to each other would describe a conversation; all ten considered together could be likened to a committee meeting. The relationships of all those planets to each other characterizes the effectiveness of that group meeting or the quality of dialogue going on within us. Some people have simple and harmonious inner dialogues, while other people have a riot going on inside.Astrological Aspects allows readers to make sense of the riot, and through examples of aspects in the charts of well-known people, shows us how different individuals manage, or mismanage, both conflicting and complementary energies-and by extension, how we can do the same.

This book is an English translation of Book XVIII of the Astrologia Gallica, in which Morin explains in detail his theory of how to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the planets in a horoscope, a topic of great relevance and consequence to astrology. The present volume includes several horoscopes of notable persons that are used as examples of the rules.Morin was a well-known physician who became the most renowned of the French astrologers. He was appointed Royal Mathematician to King Louis XIII and was present at the birth of the future King Louis XIV. His massive Astrologia Gallica written in the scholarly Latin of the 17th century is now becoming available to English-speaking readers in a series of translations.
This book is an English translation of Morin's treatise on Primary Directions, which constitutes Book 22 of his Astrologia Gallica, with appendices containing supplementary material relating to Book 22, and addenda containing fundamental astrological principles, in particular the Table of Universal Rulerships of the Planets from Book 13, the Universal Laws of Judgments of Solar and Lunar Returns from Book 23, and Aphorisms stating the Principal Laws of Transits along with Rules for the Prediction of Future Events from Book 24.This translation supplements Richard S. Baldwin's translation of Book 21 on Determinations (also published by the AFA). The two translations together provide a core subset of the theory of Natal Astrology set forth by J-B Morin (1583-1656), the leading figure of French astrology. Morin's theory is based upon the use of determinations and accidental significators. Thus, it differs radically from the common theory that largely ignores derived houses and uses universal significators. Also, it is event-oriented rather than esoteric or psychological. The translator, James Herschel Holden, is Research Director of the American Federation of Astrologers and has been especially interested in the history of astrology.
