Harawene was a small, black and white terrior cross, who lived wild in a paddock overlooking Te Ngae Road, Rotorua's busiest highway . Fascinated by the passing traffic, she would stand watching it for hours, becoming a silent companion to countless motorists who passed by. Tragically run over in 2008, she was mourned by thousands. Funds were raised for a bronze statue, created by Mr. Fridtjof Hanson, which now stands in Harawene's favourite spot over looking Te Ngae Road. Every Christmas, artist Maxine Thompson places a red Christmas hat on Harawene's head. This Children's book is in verse, and is in memory of a courageous little dog, who will be remembered with affection by thousands
