Much has been said about happiness-about what it is and how to get it. Little has been said about how to stay happy. We all share the experience that happiness is hard to achieve and even harder to hold on to. We are not often happy, and when we are we don't stay happy for long. In contrast, we are often unhappy, and when we are it seems to be enduring. Why?In How to Be Happy in Spite of Yourself, author Dr. Robert Dawson offers a look at happiness and explains why instinct needs us to be unhappy. It answers the following questions: • What is wrong with me or with others? • Is something broken that needs to be fixed? • Is it possible for me to be happy more of the time? • Can I get better at snapping out of being unhappy?Dawson details the three-step habit we need to develop to moderate the negative effect of the human survival instinct on the quality of our life. When we realize our instinct is undermining our happiness and see it for what it is-a normal and necessary automatic reaction to life's challenges-we are on the way to being happy in spite of it.

Art Versus Therapy We live in an uncertain world. Global catastrophes, infrastructures crumbling, inequalities within social systems, terrorism and the oxymoron of Holy War does not rest peacefully in my mind. Domestic abuse a symptom of unrest and an era of another "stolen generation" via blended families, the fallout of divorce. Feminism bravely charting the illogical and never ending suffocation of the privileged white male patriarchy. The latter not experiencing sexist marginalization but "sensitive" to the conundrum it inherited. While we watch our daughters experience a sexualized "raunch" culture where greater demands trivialize idealism. I hope the methodology inside brings you peace friend and shines a beaming light through your beautiful soul. It's time to hold hands in the playground.
The original edition of Yes You Can-With God's Help! was self-published in 1991. The cost of printing two thousand copies in full color was $12,500. At that time, after I'd left teaching, that was practically all the money I had, but I believed the Lord wouldn't let me fall flat on my face. When I was due to pay that money to the printers, I went to withdraw a small amount from my savings account, and there was an additional entry of $12,380! In our little prayer group, we used to say that in any endeavor it's a team effort, but we need to do our 1 percent before we can expect the Lord to provide his 99. Months after the booklet (only thirty pages then) was printed, a friend pointed out that the $120 shortfall was 1 percent of the money. The Lord had provided 99 percent of the money, in mysterious circumstances, and left me to pay the final 1 percent. Thank you, Lord! In preparation for the publication of this expanded and updated Second Edition, at the Lord's prompting, I had added to the original text five years earlier but was blocked from any further development. His perfect timing became obvious to me when I recently discovered what I consider to be the final spiritual piece of the jigsaw puzzle regarding goal-setting. I was able to include it in this edition. Again, thank you, Lord!
