Depression is a difficult place to be. Challenging on many levels, it can be as frightening for the sufferer as for those who watch on. Those in the midst of its gloom can feel as if they are living a different and parallel life to those they share their homes and world with. This disconnection, and inaccessibility of outsiders to share this highly personalised state of being, can be scary, isolating and lonely. It takes tremendous strength and resilience to successfully conquer reactive depression, to acknowledge and accept the triggers and personal shortcomings that allowed it to take hold, and to eclipse the darkness of mental illness in favour of the light of happiness. It takes fortitude to share these experiences with a wider audience.Journey into the Dark and the Light depicts one woman's progression from the shadows of her darkest places, overwhelmed and out of her depth, through her awareness that she could instigate change towards a productive life incorporating personal empowerment and professional success. The selected poems and artworks illustrate with candour the insights she gained through her journey to well-being, exposing valued understanding of the harrowing process through which she developed inner strength and resilience, thereby consolidating the foundations for a balanced life encompassing self assurance and contentment.

  • - Liquid Love Poems
    by Genevieve Sourile
    £19.49

Genevieve, a poet, and Sean, a bartender, wrote this literary affair between classic cocktails and love poems-an adventure into the romance and libertine spirit of classic cocktails, including fabulous recipes from the 1920's with modern variations. Hemingway's advice to "write drunk and edit sober" describes their creative process as poems were written under the spirit of each drink. The cocktails provide the metaphors for a poetic love story, giving the history, secrets, and mystique of each drink. What started as a single poem, using the martini as a metaphor for love and life, grew into a merger of many classic cocktails with the developing romance. Key social issues of the times were also swept along with it as the poems invite the reader along on their journey.Classic Cocktails: Liquid Love Poems is a tribute to the slower styles of earlier times, linking classic cocktails with important issues such as liberty, freedom of choice, love between men and women as equals, and honoring previous generations-for whom everyone should be grateful to as part of the evolution of the human species. These issues are still present in modern culture, and now more than ever people need poetry, romance, and spirituality in their lives. With the quick pace of life and dependence on technology to communicate, people need to slow down and take time to get in touch with their natural selves; who we were before the social conditioning around survival, money, and materialism cemented people into false identities or stereotypical roles. Everyone needs time to just be-to reconnect with one's spirit and allow creative urges and inspirations to express themselves freely. This reconnection can truly be a spiritual journey to not only connect with our selves, but also with each other. Hemingway has a lot to say about this in the last poem, The Liberty Bell.

Stella used to think she was just a normal twelve-year-old girl. She used to believe everyone knew they had a light shining brightly within them making magical things possible. She used to think everyone saw auras and sometimes just knew things without ever being told. She thought everyone saw Crossovers and Whisperers, and chatting with Mother Earth was nothing out of the ordinary. Apparently not. Now, Stella is realising just how unique she truly is. She's also discovering what she's here for. She is somehow right in the middle of what Mother Earth has always told her-that nature is a balancing act, and when it's harmed, Nature Spirits pay the ultimate price. Not only are the Faeries depending on Stella, they're depending on others just like her.

  • by Jannah Meredith
    £16.49

Back when I was in early high school, I wrote a short story called The Little Grey Tractor. This story was based on experiences that my dad and his parents when through. It seems odd in our minds today, but in 1967 no one in Australia believed that bush fires could or would penetrate urban areas, and come into the city. Bushfires happened in the bush.I have never been able to throw out the little book and always in the back of my mind was the thought to rewrite it as an adult. Living in Australia, weather extremes, is a topic that we never fail to enjoy discussing, and with some of the devastating fires that have in more recent years claimed lives, I don't want people to forget what happened, and why.
