மக்களின் உணவு செயல்கள் ஒவ்வாமையாலே உடலிலுள்ள வளி, தீ, நீர், (வாத, பித்த, கபம்) ஆகிய மூன்றும் தத்தம் இயற்கையளவில் மிகுந்தும் குறைந்தும் நோய் உண்டான காலத்து, நமது முன்னோர் அந்நோய்களை வெயிலிற் காய்தல், எண்ணெய் முழுக்கு, பட்டினியிருத்தல், உணவு முறைகளில் மாற்றம் செய்தல் போன்ற, இயற்கையானதும் எளிதானதுமான பக்குவங்களால் அவற்றைத் தீர்த்து வந்தனர். இவை போதாதெனில் பச்சிலை,கொடி, வேர், கிழங்கு, பூ, காய், கனி, வித்து முதலானவற்றாலாகிய சாறு, குடிநீர், எண்ணெய், இலேகியம் போன்ற மருந்துகளைக் கொடுத்தனர். இதனாலும் தீர்க்கவியலாத, நோய்களுக்கு, உப்புகள், ரசகந்தக பாடாணங்கள் போன்றவற்றால், நீறு, செந்தூரம் போன்ற மருந்துகள் செய்தனர்.

மலர்கள் பலவகை, அவற்றுட் சில, அழகுமட்டும் கொண்டு, காண்பார் கண்களைக் கவரும்; சில குறைந்த அழகும் நிறைந்த மணமும் உடையவாய்க் கண்ணுக்கும் கருத்துக்கும் விருந்தளிக்கும். அழகும் சுவையும் மணமும் ஆய்வதில் அருந்திறன் வாய்ந்தவை தேனீக்கள். அவை, "இணரூழ்த்தும் நாறா மலர்" களை நாடாது, கண்ணைக் கவர்ந்து சுவையும் மணமுமுள்ள தேன் விருந்தளிக்கும் மலர்களையே நாடிச்சென்று தாம் பெறும் தேனின்பத்தைப் பிறரும் பிறவும் பெற விழைவனபோலத் தேனைப் பதமுறச் செய்து உதவும் பண்பு வாய்ந்தவை. நல்லறிஞரும் தேனியனையர்; தாம் தேர்ந்து பயின்ற நன்னூற் பொருள்களை வகைப்படுத்திச் சின்னூலுணர்ந் தாரும் கற்றுப் பயன்பெறும் வகையில் நூல் வடிவாக்கித் தருபவர். முத்தமிழ்க் காவலர் கி. ஆ. பெ. விசுவநாதரும் அத்தகைய அறிஞர் குழுவைச் சார்ந்தவர். அவர் தரும் நூல்கள் அறிவின் களஞ்சியம் எனலாம்; தெவிட்டாத தேன்பிலிற்றும் தேனடை எனினும் இழுக்காது. செல்வத்தின் வகையைச் சிறக்க விளக்கும் இச் சிறுநூல், கி. ஆ. பெ. வி. யின் கலை நலங்கனிந்து விளங்குவது; பலவகைக் கருத்துக்களைச் சில பக்கங்களில் தெள்ளிதின் விளக்குவது; உருவிற் குறியதாயினும், உறு பயனளிப்பதில் 'தானே உவமை தனக்கு.' பயன்பெற விழையும் பண்புடையார் படித்துச் சுவைத்துப் பயனடைக!

வள்ளலாரும் அருட்பாவும் என்பது கி. ஆ. பெ. விசுவநாதம் எழுதிய நூல். இந் நூலுக்கு ஜி ஆர் தாமோதரன் அணிந்துரை எழுதியுள்ளார். 19ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் தோன்றி பெரும் சமய புரட்சி செய்த வள்ளலார் பற்றியும் அவர் எழுதிய அருட்பா பற்றியும் எழுதப்பட்ட நூல் இது. முதல் 27 பக்கங்களில் வள்ளலாரின் வாழ்க்கைக் குறிப்பை எளிய நடையில் அளிக்கிறார். பின்பு மீதி உள்ள பக்கங்கள் அனைத்திலும் சமூக மற்றும் சமய நெறியில் அருட்பாவின் சிறப்புகளை எடுத்துரைக்கிறார்.

திருக்குறள், தொட்டனைத்து ஊறிச் சுரக்கும் அறிவுக் கேணி. திருக்குறளின் பொருள் வளமையும் சிறப்பும் கற்கக் கற்கப் பெருகிக் கொண்டே இருக்கும். முத்தமிழ்க் காவலர் அவர்கள் திருக்குறளைத் தொட்டு நயங்காட்டும்போது, புதுப்புதுச் சுவையும், அழகும், செழுமையும் ஒளி வீசுகின்றன. அவை நம்மையும் திருக்குறள் சிந்தனையாளராக உயர்த்துகின்றன. செயல் திறனே உருவான முத்தமிழ்க் காவலர் அவர்களின் 'திருக்குறளில் செயல்திறன்' திருக்குறளுக்குச் சிறப்புச் சேர்ப்பதுடன், செயலாண்மை ஊக்கத்தையும் அனைவருக்கும் தரும் என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை, தமிழ் ஆர்வமுள்ளோருக்கு நல்ல அறிவு விருந்து, செயல் திறன் உடையோருக்கு மகிழ்வூட்டும் பாராட்டு; செயல் திறனை மறந்தோர்க்கு நினைவூட்டி இடித்துரை நல்கும் வழிகாட்டி- இந்நூல்.

கலைமகள் ஆசிரியர் உயர்திரு கி. வா. ஜகந்நாதன் அவர்களைத் தமிழ் உலகம் நன்றாக அறியும். இணையற்ற ஆசிரியராக விளங்கும் அவர்கள் அவ்வப்போது குழந்தைகளுக்காக எழுதிய கதைகள் இவை. தமிழ்த் தாத்தா டாக்டர் உ. வே. சாமிநாதையர் அவர்களுடைய அன்புக்குகந்த மாணவராகப் பயின்ற ஆசிரியர் அவர்கள் அந்த மரபிலேயே தமிழ் மணத்தைப் பெரியவர் களுக்கு மட்டுமல்ல, இளைஞர்களுக்கும், மாணவர்களுக்குங்கூடப் பல ஆண்டுகளாகப் பரப்பி வருகிறர்கள். தித்திக்கும் இந்தக் கதைகளை வெளியிடுவதில் மிக மிகப் பெருமையடைகிறோம். குழந்தைகள் இவற்றை விருப்புடன் சுவைப்பார்கள் என்பதை நன்கு அறிவோம். மேலும் ஆசிரியர் அவர்களுடைய இன்னோரு தொகுப்பு விரைவில் வெளிவரும் என்ற செய்தியை மகிழ்ச்சியோடு தெரிவித்துக்கொள்கிறோம்.

காலத்தில் இப்படி விளங்கியது என்று சொல்வது வாழ்க்கை வரலாறு பிற்காலத்தில் புகழ்பெற்று வாழ்ந்த பெரியவர்களின் குழந்தைப் பருவ நிகழ்ச்சிகளே அவர்களுடைய வரலாறுகளிலிருந்து அறிகிறோம். விளையும் பயிர் முளையிலே தெரியும் என்ற பழமொழியை உண்மைப் படுத்தும் நிகழ்ச்சிகளைப் பெரும்பாலும் அந்த வரலாறுகளிலேக் காணலாம். சில பெரியவர்களின் இளமைப் பருவ நிகழ்ச்சிகளை விரித்து எழுதினால் குழந்தைகள் படித்து இன்புறுவார்கள் என்ற எண்ணத்தோடு மகாத்மா காந்தியடிகள் முதலிய ஏழு பேர்களின் வரலாற்றி லிருந்து அவற்றைத் தொகுத்தேன். ஒவ்வொரு பெரியவரைப்பற்றியும் ஒவ்வொரு கட்டுரையாகக் 'கண்ண'னில் எழுதி வந்தேன். குழந்தைகளுக்குச் சுவையூட்டும் வகையில் தெளிவான சின்னஞ் சிறு வாக்கியங்களில் எழுதவேண்டும் என்பது என் விருப்பம். ஒருவாறு அந்த விருப்பத்தை நிறைவேற்ற முயன்றேன். அப்படி எழுதியவற்றின் தொகுப்பே இந்தப் புத்தகம். 'கண்ண'னில் வரும்போது குறிப்பிட்ட அளவுக்குள் அடங்கவேண்டி யிருந்தமையால், கிடைக்கும் செய்திகளை யெல்லாம் பயன்படுத்திக்கொண்டு விரிவாக எழுத முடியவில்லை. அப்படி எழுதினால் ஒவ்வொருவரையும் பற்றி ஒவ்வொரு புத்தகமே எழுதிவிடலாம்.

இந்தப் புத்தகத்தில் குழந்தைகள் படித்து மகிழ்வதற்கு உரிய பதினைந்து கதைகள் அடங்கியிருக்கின்றன. இந்தக் கதைகள் புலவர்களுடைய ஆற்றலும், அறிவுடைய பெண்களின் சாமார்த்தியமும், மெய் பேசுதல், தாயினிடம் அன்பு வைத்தல், விடா முயற்சி செய்தல், தர்மம் தலைகாத்தல் முதலிய நீதிகளைப் புலப்படுத்துகின்றன. தமிழ்ப் புலவர்களின் அறிவாற்றலை அறிந்து விளங்கும் வகையில் சில கதைகள் உள்ளன. இவை குழந்தைகள் படித்து இன்புறுவதற்கும், முதியோர் கல்வி கற்கும் போது அவர் படித்து மகிழ்வதற்கும் இவை பயன்படும். இந்தக் கதைகளில் சில பல காலமாகத் தமிழ் நாட்டில் வழங்கி வரும் வரலாறுகளை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டவை.

இந்தியனும் ஹிட்லரும் பம்மல் சம்பந்த முதலியாரால் இயற்றப்பட்டும் 1947 ல் வெளியான ஓர் தமிழ் நாடகம்.

ஆபுத்திரன் சரித்திரம், தமிழ் மொழியிலுள்ள ஐம்பெருங் காப்பியங்களுள் ஒன்றாகிய மணிமேகலைக் காப்பியத்துள் ஆங்காங்கு இடையிடையே வரும் ஒர் கிளைக்கதை. இதனை ஒர் கோவைப்படத் தொகுத்துப் புதிய உரைநடையில் இளைஞர் கதைப்பூந்துணர் மலர் 1 ஆக வெளியிடுகின்றேன். இச்சரித்திரத்துள் காவிய ரசம் பற்றியும், வேறு நன்மை பற்றியும் புனைந்துரைத்த சில பகுதிகளன்றி ஏனையவெல்லாம் 1800 வருடங்கட்கு முன்னர் நிகழ்ந்த உண்மைச் சரித்திரமேயாம். இச்சரிதத்துக்கு மூலமாகிய மணிமேகலையின் சரிதமும் இடையிடையே தொடர்பு பற்றி விரிக்கப் பெற்றிருக்கின்றது. இக்கதையைப் படிக்கும் சிறுவர், சிறுமிகள், அன்பு, அருள், வாய்மை, அறிவு, ஒழுக்கம் முதலிய நற்குண நற்செயல்களில் இளைமையிலேயே சிறந்து, திருந்துவார்கள் என்பது எனது கருத்து. இச்சிறிய நூல் மாணவர்கள் வசனநடை பயிலுதற்கு ஓர் நடைவண்டியாய் உதவி செய்யும். இச்சிறுநூலைக் கல்வி உலகம் உவகையுடன் ஆதரிக்கு மென்னுந் துணிபுடையேன்.
