In 1908, thunderous blasts and blazing fires from the sky descended upon the desolate Tunguska territory of Siberia. The explosion knocked down an area of forest larger than London and was powerful enough to obliterate Manhattan. The mysterious nature of the event has prompted a wide array of speculation and investigation, including from those who suspected that aliens from outer space had been involved. In this deeply researched account of the Tunguska explosion and its legacy in Russian society, culture, and the environment, Andy Bruno recounts the intriguing history of the disaster and researchers' attempts to understand it. Taking readers inside the numerous expeditions and investigations that have long occupied scientists, he foregrounds the significance of mystery in environmental history. His engaging and accessible account shows how the explosion has shaped the treatment of the landscape, how uncertainty allowed unusual ideas to enter scientific conversations, and how cosmic disasters have influenced the past and might affect the future.

China remains one of the top capital exporters in the world, yet there is a paucity of reliable sources through which to assess Chinese corporate decision-making, the implementation of Chinese-financed and managed projects, and the socio-economic effects of those projects. The Casebook fills this gap by providing fifteen case studies written by experts and researchers, many from host states and who have first-hand knowledge of the transaction or dispute in question. Case studies are written primarily based on primary source material including transactional documents, interviews with stakeholders, laws and regulations, and case decisions. Educators in professional schools, including law, policy, and business, will find in the Casebook material to supplement class discussions pertaining to Chinese overseas investment, Chinese investment strategies, and the nature of the Chinese firm. This title is also available as open access on Cambridge Core.

On the basis of recently discovered sources and original research, this book identifies and analyses three story-patterns associated with human kingship in early Greek and ancient Near Eastern myth. The first of these, the 'Myth of the Servant', was used to explain how an individual of non-royal lineage rose to power from obscure origins. The second myth, on the 'Goddess and the Herdsman', made the fundamental claim that the ruler engaged in a sexual relationship with a powerful female deity. Third, although kings are often central to the ancient literary evidence, the texts themselves were usually authored by others, such as poets, priests, prophets or scholars; like kings, these characters similarly tended to base their authority on their ability to articulate and enact the divine will. The stage was thus set for narratives of conflict between kings and other intermediaries of the gods.

This work develops techniques and basic results concerning the homotopy theory of enriched diagrams and enriched Mackey functors. Presentation of a category of interest as a diagram category has become a standard and powerful technique in a range of applications. Diagrams that carry enriched structures provide deeper and more robust applications. With an eye to such applications, this work provides further development of both the categorical algebra of enriched diagrams, and the homotopy theoretic applications in K-theory spectra. The title refers to certain enriched presheaves, known as Mackey functors, whose homotopy theory classifies that of equivariant spectra. More generally, certain stable model categories are classified as modules - in the form of enriched presheaves - over categories of generating objects. This text contains complete definitions, detailed proofs, and all the background material needed to understand the topic. It will be indispensable for graduate students and researchers alike.
