This collection of essays considers what light is shed on Pauline soteriology by giving focused attention to the apostle''s language and conception of sin. Sometimes Paul appears to present sin and disobedience as transgression, while at other times sin is personified and treated as an enslaving power. Is there a model or perspective that can account for Paul''s conceptual range in his discussion of sin? What does careful study of Paul''s letters reveal about the christological and pneumatological remedies to the problem of sin as he conceives of them? These questions are explored with attention to individual Pauline letters towards a richer understanding of his attitude towards sin and its remedy.

Christianity is turning brown and moving south. The Christianity the West has known is in recession and has all but dwindled out of recognition in the opening years of the twenty-first century. Well over half of the world''s Christians now live in the Global South--Africa, Asia, and Latin America. They are, according to Aberdeen missiologist Andrew Walls, the new Representative Christians. What they think about Christianity will matter more and more and what North America thinks about Christianity will matter less and less. This massive shift in geography and theological point of departure will have a major impact on Christian preaching now and into the future. The Future Shape of Christian Proclamation seeks to begin the conversation about how preaching in the Global South will inform the whole of Christian preaching in the coming years.

Biblical Exegesis of New Testament Greek: James is a workbook designed to guide the beginning- to intermediate-Greek student through the process of biblical exegesis of the text of James. The workbook leads the student through a comprehensive process of grammar review, translation, exegesis, and application of the Greek text. It is based on a deductive pedagogy for learning Greek but follows an inductive approach to grammar review. Students review grammatical, morphological, and syntactical issues arising in the text of James. The inductive grammar review references Gerald L. Stevens''s New Testament Greek Primer as a companion grammar. Analysis of syntactical and exegetical information is presented from major lexicons, critical commentaries, and Greek grammars. Detailed footnotes conveniently present this valuable material. Key questions probe crucial exegetical and theological issues. Special vocabulary aids minimize lexical work, enabling students to focus on exegesis. An optional textual-criticism section is offered for intermediate students. Each lesson concludes with a practical application for ministry. Students are required to ""phrase"" a portion of the Greek text. They then construct a sermon or teaching outline based upon the phrasing exercise. Upon completing this book, students will have fifteen biblically based outlines from the Greek text for preaching or teaching purposes. Biblical Exegesis of New Testament Greek: James encourages students and pastors to sharpen their Greek skills and to use their Greek New Testaments in ministry . . . from translation to proclamation.

"With this Festschrift we bring to this teacher and friend a richly multicolored bouquet of theological contributions, all of which convey an echo of Lochman's theological message. Frank Macchia and Paul Chung, who were among Lochman's leading students at Basel, have collected the essays of this volume. These essays reveal the ecumenical interests of inter-confessional ecumenical dialogue, the social interest of a vigorous Christian ethic, and the human interest in a humane culture, interests affirmed in various ways in Lochman's theology. They bring to expression our gratitude for his theological presence over so many years and in so many continents." Jurgen Moltmann, from the foreword Contributors Include: Prof. Dr. Charles C. It explores questions relating to the significance of being human, Eve's curse, sexed bodies, the place of Mary, the nature of priesthood, the role of the deacon, and the task of being a priest in the twenty-first century. The reflections move across three main areas of discussion: issues of theological anthropology, particular questions pertaining to the priesthood and the diaconate, and contemporary practices. In each area the implications for ordaining women in the Orthodox Church today are explored.
