My son Max Gold Dwares passed away on February 18, 2004, from complications related to a bone marrow transplant that he had on July 27, 2001, to cure him of chronic myelogenous leukemia. This book is Max's story as told by him (and continued by me) and captured by photographs by myself and other family friends in black and white and a few color photos as Max began his chemotherapy until his untimely demise at the tender age of twenty. The book was in the initial stages by Max but stopped as Max grew sicker, leading to his death. I have compiled twenty years of my drawings that people have often told me they would love to color. As the tale progresses, more characters enter who help the little girl. Having no family alive and nowhere to call home, Rosie is forced to stay at the local orphanage, where she makes friends. During this time, a terrible fire disrupts life at the orphanage. Will Rosie find a new home, and will Sam and Beverly get the child they have been praying for, or will the difficulties be too great?Throughout the book, horses, dogs, and cats play an important role alongside the people, and the mastiff, Phinehas, remains Rosie's faithful companion and guardian. The angel, Dionysius, plays a vital role in everyone's lives, weaving in and out of the story at intervals, following God's instructions. The book concentrates on love, healing and forgiveness, repentance, and the salvation message, as explained in the Bible in the gospel of John, Chapter 3, where Jesus explains "e;....unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."e;

Both of them are in their mid-thirties. Pastor Barry Yoder and his wife, Sherry, are among the most beloved of the town's inhabitants, and they minister to the people. They come alongside a couple who have separated and help restore the lost love from their marriage. Jim and Bessie Benson are loved by everyone. He owns the town's Marathon gas station, and Bessie makes the best pies in the town, but she finds out she has cancer, and the whole town comes together and prays for her. There is Miss Ruth Hennessey, principal of Marshall Middle School, who is a no-nonsense woman on the outside but has a heart of gold on the inside. There's Jim Morrison, general contractor, and Randy Colthirst, the town's dentist. All three hang out nearly every weekday at the Chit Chat caf and their interactions and banter make for some lively discussions. And that's what makes the Chit Chat Cafe seem more like a home than a restaurant. There are many more memorable characters, including the mayor, police chief, fire chief, other pastors. You will grow to love the town and its people. The editor, who used to be a columnist for a major Chicago newspaper for twenty years, brings it all together. I would love to live in Connor myself!
