"Finally, I could see ahead the habitation of cruelty; its steep walls of layered bricks seemed to be like a stone mountain that cast a dark shadow of death onto the street below." Esther was now at the place and time when she would ultimately understand what God had been preparing her for. Her journey begins when she is twelve and with her younger brother, Jacob, set out to find their missing father. When the desperate search leads the frightened children to the cross of Jesus, they are horrified to witness the death of their father, as the thief next to Him. Now homeless orphans, Mary Magdalene adopts them and becomes instrumental in Esther's developing faith during the dynamic events of the early Church, allowing us to witness the birth of Christianity through the eyes of this child. Even though she hears powerful lessons of God's truth taught by Andrew and other disciples, her faith struggles to grow hindered by adolescent rebellion that fantasizes about a life of luxury contrary to the one she imagines God has planned for her. Tempted by a gorgeous red silk fabric to follow her heart's desires, she is separated from Mary's protection and sin places her at the mercy of a dangerous ugly world. Her poor decisions cause her to make many mistakes, but as she overcomes each, she learns what God expects from her and finds His strength to prevail over any adversity even those inside her. Bending her will to His, she becomes fit for His service, giving her the spiritual fortitude to face persecutions, and the agonizing martyrdom of those close to her. The hand of God can be seen in each inspirational moment, as miraculous interventions unfold, eventually bringing her to a place and life she could never have imagined.

Spiritual transformational yoga takes a step-by-step approach through the eight limbs of yoga. Most people initially come to the mat because of the physical practice and all the benefits that yoga offers for strengthening the body and increasing flexibility. The actual point of yoga is to unite oneself with God. Yoga is not a religion but is open to all religions. It is a spiritual discipline that can provide helpful tools to strengthen one's faith. The eight limbs of yoga provides a path to oneness with God. The first two limbs concentrate on external and internal values. Next comes the postures to prepare the body physically to sit in prayer and meditation for periods of time. Breath work is incorporated after the physical practice to calm the mind even further for meditation. It is then that the individual begins withdrawing from the senses, going inward to focus and being, then eventually meditating and being one with God.Dr. Sally Bassett has written this book based on her experience of traveling and leading groups to over 120 countries. Sally has practiced yoga; prayed and/or meditated on the banks of the Ganga River in India, an abbey with Trappist monks, a convent with the Sister of Saint Benedict, in Muslim prayer rooms throughout the world, and a French ashram in the Loire Valley; sung gospel songs around campfires with rural women in Uganda; sat with monks in silence across Asia; listened to the beliefs from Native American Indians in Western United States; prayed in cathedrals across the globe lighting candles too numerous to count; and hiked hundreds of miles of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain.Sally is a humanitarian, world traveler, seeker, and founder of Peace through Yoga Foundation. Sally's enthusiasm toward life as well as her creative and spiritual approach to yoga have been keys to her success. Her yoga journey has included a twelve-year ownership of two yoga studios, teaching yoga and philosophy as an adjunct professor at Butler University and cofounding the Yoga and Spirituality program at Christian Theological Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sally lives and teaches yoga in the village of Zionsville, Indiana, when she is not traveling the world. All proceeds go to Peace through Yoga Foundation (www.peacethroughyoga.org).

Just imagine this for a moment ... what if one of the shepherds at the manger in Bethlehem was a young boy learning to tend sheep? What if he experienced that cold, lonely night so long ago that we have been told was invaded by an angel announcing the most improbable news? What if an immeasurable multitude of an angelic choir joined that angel singing God's praise in the most awesome display of heaven's glory? What if he went along with the other shepherds to find the baby and his family in the stable and witnessed the majesty of God's incarnation? What if he grew up like most shepherds of the day on the underside of life? What if the challenges of life caused him to stray a little? What if he wound up, a few short years later, in a Roman prison facing execution? And what if he met a carpenter facing a similar sentence? How might his story have turned out? Read Jacob's story and see how he experienced "glory to glory."

Eight children from four wealthy families are kidnapped in New York City on New Year's Eve in 1885. Just when the children's parents had given up all hope of ever seeing their children again, they each received a letter from the kidnappers with two demands, which must be met in order to secure the release of their children. The first demand requires a large ransom to be delivered to the kidnappers at a place to be determined. The second demand requires that four Christian men, whom the kidnappers will choose, must deliver the ransom and if it's delivered by anyone else, all the children that were kidnapped will be killed. News of the large ransom spreads quickly throughout the United States, and every outlaw wants to get their hands on it before it gets to the kidnappers. Can the ransom get through to the kidnappers and save the children's lives, or will the kidnappers kill their young captives because the ransom was never delivered to them or was delivered by someone other than the four Christian men that were chosen to deliver it?

The World of Hospice Spiritual Care: A Practical Guide for Palliative Care Chaplains offers a comprehensive study of spiritual care in hospice. Dr. Sullivan's ability to express the role of the spiritual counselor in creative and insightful ways is refreshing. Chaplains serve in interdisciplinary teams to relieve pain and suffering and to improve patients' quality of life. Members of hospice teams must have specialized knowledge in their area of expertise. Hospice chaplains must be familiar with other areas of hospice work and their functions because hospice care components interrelate. Working in the hospice environment offers tremendous satisfaction and challenges. Doug skillfully addresses those challenges and equips chaplains to allow God's presence to shine through them as they minister effectively in palliative care outreaches. This practical guide examines hospice movement history, philosophy and concepts of care, program models, and interdisciplinary teams. Then Dr. Sullivan discusses the psychosocial and spiritual aspects of pain; spiritual assessments and spiritual care plans; the role of spiritual care staff; grief, bereavement, and mourning; and staff grief and stress management. A thorough analysis of these topics introduces caregivers to the world of hospice, which helps the critical role of the spiritual counselor (hospice chaplain) to emerge. Thus, a better understanding of these concepts and the resulting increased technical competence allows hospice chaplains more freedom to impact patients', families', and caregivers' lives through the ministry of presence. The World of Hospice Spiritual Care: A Practical Guide for Palliative Care Chaplains prepares chaplains to offer comfort, kindness, and care to the dying in their communities in their greatest hours of need. The emotional, spiritual, and practical helps hospice chaplains provide through the ministry of presence can make all the difference in the world for their neighbors. Indeed, hospice chaplains are ordinary people inspired by extraordinary purpose, allowing God's manifest presence to change people's lives through palliative care ministry.

In 2016, suicide and depression are at an epidemic high in the United States. The World Health Organization predicts that by 2020 depression will be the most diagnosed medical problem in the world second to heart disease. Little, if anything, is being done to battle this disaster by our government or health leaders. Medicine, science and psychology cannot answer why this is happening but Author and Psychotherapist, Leo Battenhausen has a theory. America has Soul Doubt on God. People are seeking assistance to feel better in all the wrong places as belief in God keeps getting ignored by society and the media causing catastrophic effects. Battenhausen combines the field of psychology with the healthy SOUL to demonstrate how people can feel better again if they allow God into their lives and simply BELIEVE! A compelling read for the believer and non-believer alike. Soul Doubt illustrates the decline of morality in America today brought about by technology, social media and a government that has virtually kicked God out of society and institutions and had allowed evil forces to dominate our lives and minds. Where science, medicine and psychology have hit a brick wall when it comes to WHY, Soul Doubt breaks through with solution-focused answers and PROVEN ways to battle depression and suicide.
A few years ago, I had no clue I would be living at “the Pond.”The Pond on most days is a place of quiet beauty. Other days may bring the power of a thunderstorm with the excitement of bright lightening. In the summer the evenings can be quite loud with the song of the bullfrogs, chirping of crickets and sometimes even the barks and howls of coyotes. However, at any time the hand of the Creator can be seen at the Pond.I never knew so many lessons could be gleaned from nature, but I have learned much of God and His Son Jesus from unlikely characters such as crows, hummingbirds, and even a snake!Time spent at the pond renews my spirit and my prayer is that through this little book you may experience the beauty, power, and the creatures all created by our Heavenly Father for us, his children, as if you too were seated on my back porch! My desire, through God’s hand, is to bring you, the reader, into a closer walk with God the Father. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior I pray that the words in The Pond will enable you to see and feel the love of Jesus and create a desire to know Him in a personal relationship.God’s Word tells us there is only one way to eternal life and that is found in John 14:6: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”Now bring your chair or blanket and come sit by the Pond with me and discover the God who loves you so!
The original Christians were called “Christians” in a derogatory way by those who were not Christ’s followers. But because Christ’s followers didn’t object to being called Christians, the name stuck. In many places and times, being identified as a Christian has cost the ultimate price. The question we must ask is, Do we really know our Savior well enough to know that we can trust him with our lives? Do we know him well enough to know that if we are in a situation where serious punishment, maybe even death, is certain that we can trust him and say, “So be it”? Do we really believe that Jesus is the resurrection that he claims to be? Do we believe that, in him, even when we die, it is only the physical body? How well do we know the Savior we are following? The better we know him, the more we come to love, trust, and enjoy his friendship! Jesus knows everything there is to know about you, and he yearns for you to know as much as you can about him! Knowing him means having a real friendship like never before!

Hai, an eight year old child growing up in the war-torn country of Vietnam in the 1950s, witnesses a devastating blow to his family when Communist agents kidnap his older brother. His older brother''s long-time friend, a secret Communist agent is the villain behind this horrendous crime. Almost all of the Communist abduction victims vanish forever or their beheaded corpses are dumped at the edge of the thick woods in his poor little village. This incident creates a crease in Hai''s mind about the Communists'' grievous treatment of the innocent Vietnamese people. With the full support of the Communist bloc, the guerrilla war initiated by the Communist North Vietnam escalated to a full-scale conventional engagement and ultimately the South Vietnamese government collapses in 1975. The new totalitarian regime revokes all of the people''s basic freedoms and creates havoc for the country''s economy by establishing highly inefficient agriculture cooperatives and a moribund command economy policy. The oppression of freedom, collapse of the economy, the confiscation of people''s properties and forcing them to the new economic zone pushes people to flee the country by any means imaginable. Recalling painful memories from his own childhood and seeing nothing but a dark future for his children, Hai decides to flee the country. Inflicted with poverty and the strict control of the government''s brutal security apparatus, Hai and his friends work tirelessly in this precarious situation to escape Communist Vietnam. Their plan is dangerous, bold and risky but they successfully flee the country in 1981 by boat through the heavily guarded river mouth of Rach Gia province in the South of Vietnam.Immigrating to the USA, the family works very hard to assimilate themselves in this wonderful country and they are now living a comfortable life in North Carolina.
Everyone has been wounded. Some wounds recall childhood hurts; some are more recent. They may be personal through family or close friends, or they can be generated by workplace issues with a boss or coworker. No matter where they originate, woundedness is a human malady stemming from our brokenness and it makes us question the very purpose of the hurts we experience.Come along with the author as she takes us into one man's journey of being wounded and how his story affects ours. Joseph was a man, just like us, who experienced the depth of painful circumstances and went on to a height he never dreamed. As we study his life, we learn that God was after his heart, just as He is after ours and mine. Where there is adversity, there is fear. But God desires to transform our fear into faith. He pursues us in the depths of pain in order to bring us to His glory. Even though our hearts have been wounded by people, we have a God who heals our wounds and, through the process of fellowship with Him, shows us His heart.
